Xangold Lutein Effective Against Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Xangold LuteinA recent study indicates that Cognis’ Xangold lutein and zeaxanthin supplement (12 mg lutein for six months) is effective at boosting eye health among those with early-stage age-related macular degeneration (AMD). AMD is the number one cause of severe vision loss and legal blindness in adults over 60 in the U.S.

“A significant augmentation of macular pigment density was found in a majority of study subjects, including those afflicted with AMD. The importance of these findings rests on the fact that the beneficial effects of these antioxidants can also be extended to subjects with established disease.”

It seems that supplemental lutein and/or zeaxanthin may delay, prevent, or modify the course of AMD. The study has been published in the April issue of Experimental Eye Research. More details from Nutra Ingredients.

  1. It is great to see people promoting the use of antioxidants in the fight of macular degeneration. The evidence shows that while this isn’t a cure for this disease, it is a viable treatment for reducing the risk associated with macular degeneration.

    Keep up the great work!

  1. [...] 4. Swiss chard: “A half cup of cooked Swiss chard provides a huge amount of both lutein and zeaxanthin, supplying 10 mg each. These plant chemicals, known as carotenoids, protect your retinas from the damage of aging, according to Harvard researchers.” See related info on my previous post on Xangold and macular degeneration.
