This happy looking gentleman is a Yaki Soba crafts-person.  He makes hundreds of people extremely satisfied every day as he practices his art at an average Japanese Matsuri (even though there is nothing like an average for Matsuri).  I’m sure his is a distinguished profession and it is definitely in great demand, but it isn’t exactly rocket science.  In reality, Yaki Soba is just a dish of well cooked BBQ noodles.  So if you are looking for a career change here is a good inroad into the world of professional cooking.

You start with, some meat, usually finely sliced beef or pork, add a handful of soft thin noodles like Chinese wheat noodles.  Add some vegetables if you like and a little yakisoba seasoning (if you don’t have any try some Chinese five spices and a little sugar).  BBQ or fry the lot for a few minutes and then serve with some pickled ginger, bonito flakes, Kewpie mayonnaise or anything else that takes your fancy.  The specific ingredients vary depending on who is cooking it and where they come from, so forget about strict rules, just make sure you have enough because it is bound to be popular.

Yaki Soba is fast, easy, flexible and fun, what more could you ask for?
