Yes, Today We Feel

And it’s the right way to be as opposed to the way we were…

I said it felt timely and I didn’t know why. As the book says – more will be revealed. I know the final outcome has already been planned by our Creator. My dear friend Linda is very sick and may be near death. We will find out soon.

The God I understand graciously gave me the opportunity to speak for Linda on the 7th of January for her 9th year clean in Narcotics Anonymous. A gift. A gift for both of us. One I’ll never forget.

In her own words “a hard core, true, street junkie.” A heroin addict who slept on the grates of the Big City for years. “Hijacked” into recovery by some beautiful women who hoodwinked her into an NA meeting and wouldn’t let her leave. Then became passionate about recovery. I mean damn passionate about recovery! And a real power of example.

Over thirty years the ghosts of Viet Nam haunted her. She was a medic in the 95th Medivac in Hell’s Half Acre in ‘66 and/or ‘67. She saw things an 18/19 year old female ought not ever see and she was there to help. To help! And she did.

But she felt she didn’t help enough and the ghosts haunted her.

Her grandsons Jeffrey and Ryan were the lights of her life. Many times in the last two plus years Linda would be with Jeffrey at the hospital or the Dr.’s office to help with his leukemia. She poured every last ounce of love she could muster into those children and had some left over for her partner, her sponsees and even me.

Linda is an amazing woman. The romantic in me would love to say that God’s Kingdom will be better off when she arrives. But God’s Kingdom is perfect. What will probably happen for real is that Linda will be welcomed home with open arms and big hugs. The ghosts will no longer be ghosts. They’ll be the souls of those she helped. She’ll be among friends.

And we will miss her.
