You want to get WHAT pierced?

The days of one hole in a set of ear lobes is long gone. Women can now have piercings just about anywhere they want, including nipple piercing and genital piercing. But, how does this work during pregnancy?
If the piercing is already done, then there’s not much to do, but if you have the urge to get pierced during pregnancy, there are some things to keep in mind.

I never thought of my ring being a choking hazard. Then again, I’m not going to nurse, so there you go.
I don’t have any piercings below the neck, but I do have a tattoo on my lower belly and would love to know what to expect with that! (Should I ever get pregnant, that is.)
An old friend of mine also has a tattoo on her belly, and she said her tattoo fell (fell? whatever, you know what I mean, lol) right back into place after giving birth. However, I haven’t talked to her in several years, so I don’t know how well it handled the second baby…
It is important to note that all women are different. However, if you are pregnant, you should not get a navel piercing. Even women who have never had a problem can sometimes get an infection from the skin stretching and thinning during pregnancy. Short steel belly rings don’t help matters. There are products out there now that are longer length and flexible, and come in cute baby themed styles. Check out http://www.maternitypiercings.com for more info. As far as nipple piercings, if you plan to nurse, you should let those holes close up as soon as you can. The extra openings in the sides of the nipples can prevent your infant from latching on, and that can be sad for moms who have looked forward to nursing.
