Young Survival Coalition Music Video

Here’s a music video, put together by the Philadelphia ‘chapter’ of the Young Survival Coalition. Young survivors … loosely defined as those diagnosed at 40 and under.

You know I love the song “I Run for Life” by Melissa Ethridge and that’s what’s playing in this one, too. Check it out:

I’m a young survivor … I was diagnosed at age 35. How old were you?

Great video! Thanks for sharing this Karen. I was diagnosed at 31. This month is my 7 year anniversary of survival! :)

  2. Kim says:

This is a great video. I was diagnosed at 41…too old to be a “young survivor”, too young to have breast cancer.

  3. Donna says:

Age 36 and was diagnosed at Stage 4. No history of breast cancer in family, never used birth control. No rhyme or reason.

  4. Kelly Kimball says:

    29 stage III
    30 stage IV

Great video. I belonged to the philly ysc, when I lived there. I worked their booth at the race for the cure in 2003 or 2004. I understand their are a few chapters in philly now??

Cathy, congratulations on seven years! Next year marks five years since my initial diagnosis … I’m always uncertain as to whether or not I reset the clock after my ‘relapse.’

Kim — love what you said, too old to be a young survivor, too young for cancer. So true!

Donna, it is so random, isn’t it? That’s how it was with me. My mom always jokes, though, that my family history came in the future since I was just diagnosed first.

Kelly — I have no idea about the Philly chapters. Anyone else?

    Kelly–

The YSC in Philly that you were a part of disbanded. Then, 2 of my survivor friends started it up again in January, 2007. We’re now called the Young Survival Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. We hold 3 monthly peer support meetings at Gilda’s Club in Warminster, at Grandview Hospital in Sellersville, and at Thomas Jefferson in center city Philly. We also have social events, educational events, etc. If anyone is interested in being added to our email list to receive news of upcoming events, and/or to receive our monthly newsletter, please feel free to email me at esser01@comcast.net. (I maintain our membership listings and send out the notices.) And, it was my husband Shawn who put the video together and posted it on You Tube.

Congrats everyone on being a survivor! Kim– at 41, you’re still a young survivor.

    Michelle
