Your baby is growing – the third month

May 28, 2008 by Marijke Durning, RN

Now that you’re well into your third month, you may be feeling “more pregnant.” You may have the beginnings of a baby bump, hopefully if you have morning sickness, it’s not too strong. (The first two months were reviewed in this posting: Your baby is growing – the first 2 months)

So, what does your baby look like now?

At 12 weeks gestation, the bones of the baby’s skeleton will have begun to form (at 10 weeks) and that is also when the ears began to take shape and the tooth buds were forming. Male babies begin forming testosterone in their testes at this point. At 11 weeks, if your baby is a boy, his penis will likely have become obvious.

This picture to the left is of a 12-week fetus. The finger and toe nails have begun to form and the baby is likely about 3 inches long or so.

Hi Heather – the only way you will be able to tell if your baby is developing as it should is by going to a doctor.

    Good luck.
