Your favorite binge food

I’m noticing that the poll at the sidebar is showing that plenty of readers are currently engaged in bulimic behavior.

Obviously, that’s not healthy.  But it’s not surprising, either; this is an eating disorder recovery community, after all!

Consequently, far be it from me to judge.  However, I do have a question for those who binge and purge (or simply binge):

  • What’s your binge food of choice?

If you feel that’s too sensitive an area to talk about, I understand.  But as a recovering/former anorexic, I have always been curious about bulimia.  Do you eat whatever you can?  Or do you tend to eat “forbidden” foods, like ice cream, pizza and chips?

    chocolate…

  2. RL says:

    Cereal…strange right?
Also, I’ve never been a binger per se. I just recently looked into something called purging disorder which is similar to bulimia but lacks the binge part. In other words, any foods, even small amounts, are purged after eating.
It’s so new that it isn’t even considered a disagnosable ed yet. If this sounds familiar to anyone they should def. look into it.

    • Emily says:

This is what I do… except the purge doesn’t invoke gag reflex, it’s just stomach muscles… no acid, nothing… too convenient if you know.
Favorite binge… cereal, cookie dough, cinnamon buns.

  3. Charlynn says:

I no longer binge or purge, but when I did, it was always for the simple carbohydrates – ice cream, cereal, cake….if it had tons of sugar, I was all about it.

  4. Erin says:

Ice cream used to lead to a binge every time. And actually, cereal sometimes did too. High-fat or high-sugar foods are common triggers.

  5. Jenna says:

    Why cereal?

  6. RL says:

Gross and embarrassing but…if I knew(know) I was going to purge, cereal was an easy thing to get out. Eating alone gave me anxiety…eating and then not being able to get rid of it: well that was anxiety times 10.

  7. Brittany says:

peanut butter and anything containing or tasting like peanut butter.

and the occasional big mac or eight.

  8. Andrew says:

Some of my favorite binge foods are:
    ice cream
    pizza
    cookies
    fried foods
    pastries
    cake

I don’t know but i’m sure there are more. I don’t know if i’d call them my binge foods though. Because over the past two years I’ve worked on integrating those foods into my regular meals so that I no longer binge out of control on them after the first bite.

It’s been very tricky however it paid off. I noticed that when I did binge, my binge eating episodes were much shorter since I allowed myself to have those foods anyways.

  9. Jessica says:

When I used to waitress I would have a waffle sundae (1/4 a big restaraunt waffle, ice cream, another 4th and more ice cream on top) from the one place I worked or a hot fudge cake sundae (a disgustingly chocolately hunk of a fudge cake heated with lotsa ice cream and fudge) and that was probably daily. Ice cream was just so simple.
And about the strictly purging thing…I think that was me. It’s been pretty well managed for the past year or so but I used to have to purge everything if I could. A single cookie…or a few tater tots at lunch at school. I was never a big binger but I got the flu once and I started letting things slide after I started getting better since I hadn’t kept anything down in 4 days and then I couldn’t stop eating like a normal teenager and purging took over…

  10. B says:

Ice cream, cause it’s easy to get rid of.

  11. Matt says:

Cereal, Cake, Cookies, EVERY snack cake imaginable, Raw cinnamon Rolls, and believe it or not Extra Extra Buttery Cheese Grits!

  12. Julia says:

I didn’t think there were so many of us cereal bingers. I usually binge on carbs and dairy: 5 bowls of cold cereal with milk, yogurt, cake, cookies, pastries and chocolate.

  13. Amelia says:

No, cereal is me too, but only usually after other things. Special K or something fatty and sugary like oat clusters, and then I make it worse by having it with cream…

    Otherwise: cookies (chewy or buttery)
english muffins and TONS of butter
onion rings (with salt and vinegar)
    simply fried batter…
a whole block of raw, store bought pastry, microwaved till it goes gooey and greasy
    trifles
    whole cakes
    rice pudding
    bread and butter pudding
whole jar of nutella (in varying sizes)
    whole jar of peanut butter
    peanut butter and jam/jelly sandwiches
God, if that’s not enough (and some days it isn’t) then I don’t know what else to add. Except to say that that list is not definitive. I sometimes just kix up a raw pastry dough because I had a thing about it when I was little. It really is just bland pap though, as is all the stuff on which I gorge, but I never learn of course…

Sorry for this being so long xxx

  14. EVELYN says:

    pizza
    stuff from frozen food aisle
    quesadilla
    CEREAL
i go through phases, like for a week i’ll really like cereal and the next i’ll need eggos.
other than pizza, my favorite binge food is oreos mixed with cool whip and cream cheese (sounds gross, but it is delicious) if you freeze it, it tastes like super thick oreo ice cream
i usually purge several times through a bigne to make sure my body isn’t absorbing anything

  15. Patricia says:

    PIZZA
    CHINESE FOOD
    ice cream
    cerel cold and hot
    CHIPS
FAST FOOD with lots and lots of sauces
    bagels
…(btw i always eat an apple or orange before i start)….(this way i knew when everything is out and i mdont mind digesting)

    pasteries….(they tend to clump though)

    pasta…!!

  16. Ashley says:

a whole bag of jelly beans
fried eggplant- seriously an obsession i have
    cake/frosting
    icecream
    banana or pumpkin bread
basically anything sweet or any kind of dessert….

  17. Marybeth says:

    chocolate
    cake
    cookies
    muffins
    ice cream
    chips
    peanut butter
    white bread and butter
    english muffins and cream cheese
    pizza
    fried foods

  18. Rebeca says:

Oh God I love eating cheese and meat and pasta. Pasta is so easy to get rid of and I can make a whole pot of it at home and put a whole bag of cheese and butter. Also, quesadillas, cheeseburgers, anything from outback…CHINESE FOOD!!! ause it’s abunch of carbs and it was so easy. chinese food as the worst.

  19. rabbit says:

Didn’t see any healthy food bingers….

I binge on Hummus + lettuce +tofu pups.

  20. Brittany says:

YOGURT, oatmeal, muffins, turkey and hummus sandwiches (I sometimes will eat literally like four of them in a row), almond butter and banana’s, almond butter and pears, almond butter in general, anything with a ton of cheese…… the list goes on.
I try to stick with just the yogurt, soft fruit and oatmeal if I can, these are easiest to get back up. When I say oatmeal, I mean OATMEAL, like an entire massive pot full with brown sugar or honey and nuts and dried fruit or chocolate chips and almond slivers or peanut butter……… it’s bad hahahah

  21. renn says:

i’m at the point where i can just bend over and everything jus comes out. I find that if you eat anything with ice cream its eaiser to get that out…so i usually can eat an entire box of ice cream and i will eat macdonalds snack wraps…thats pretty easy to get up. I also find oatmeal with blueberries easy tooo except i find getting the last little bit out kinda hard but other than that its easy. Oreo cookies dipped in milk is easy to. I’ll buy burgers from macdonalds and A&W and find if you eat parts of the hamburger separtley like the bun and then the meat part its so much easier to get up. But for the most part ice cream is the best…

  22. diane says:

chinese food (i crave it so badly, and i goodle images of sesame chicken ha)
    CEREAL… like 2 whole boxes
    ice cream
    burger king…A LOT
    pastas with cream sauces
hungryman tv dinners.. haha i’m disgusting
whole loaves of bread with butter
    soup
chocolate, although i have found pure chocolate is really hard to get up
    bagels with cream cheese
    chicken kiev
    mashed potatoes
    mac n’ cheese
    a whole bag of fritos
pizza (i loved pizza hut for coming out with pasta too… damn them)
literally anything i could get my hands on…

i am trying so hard to stop, but it really has taken over my life. :’(

  23. Julia says:

Basically, anything I can get my hands on but a few of my favorites are:

    -Honey
    -Maple Sugar
    -Godiva Creme Brulee Dessert Chocolates
    -Peach Cobbler
    -Toast and Jelly
    -Yogurt Sandwiches from TCBY
-The Occasional Chocolate Chip or Shortbread Cookie

  24. Emily says:

Wow ok I just found this site and it is so disgusting to read the logistical details that i consider but privately (ie strategies for getting things back up, eating an apple first, certain foods ‘clumping’)…
I mean I know I have issues, clearly I am not alone, and I feel as though they interfere with my social life etc… I would love to recover but I can”t put my life on hold. I feel like such a gross bitch.

      Hi there

I just noticed your post. I have been struggling food for years, never understood why or even that I did. Just thought “I am one of those people who don’t have a consistent weight”, but in the last year or so came to realize I have a problem. I recently started going to Overeaters Anonymous – a support group for people with eating disorders/problems. It has been so great to be surrounded with people like me, who understand me and where there is genuine support from people who have been there and are in recovery. I don’t know where you live – UK or US but if you are interested, google Overeaters Anonymous – they are worldwide and see if there is a number to call or a meeting close to you. You won’t be sorry.

  25. Christine says:

I haven’t binged in awhile, but the last one I did was four days. I thought I’d just enjoy myself for one day before I went back to school but it turned into four days of anything I could find after my parents went to bed… mostly ice cream and oreos and pb&j sandwiches. I tried SOOO hard after to throw it back up, but I seriously don’t think I have a gag reflex, because I stuck half my arm down my throat and I couldn’t get anything back up. I usually don’t try to throw up after, I just feel guilty and gross the next day. I’m planning on having a binge to end all binges sometime soon… I have a list of foods going that I never let myself have so I want to have them during the binge… but at the same time I don’t want to do the binge, because I’m so looking forward to it and before I know it it’ll be over, and I’m afraid I’ll have loved it so much that I’ll do it again, and I want to stop before this gets out of control. So messed up.

  26. caitlin says:

My favorite is ice cream and any spicy food. for some reason i like the punishment of how hard it is on my throat.

  27. Anna says:

I have had bulimia really badly for 5 years now, and my binging follows a strict routine. It starts at 11:00 and goes on for two hours. In that time I always consume 4 white chocolate and raspberry cookies, 20 chocolates, a bar of galaxy chocolate, a tub of frosting and shortbread bites.
I follow an exact order in eating it, and time myself exactly to the second.
How wierd is that. I’ve never come across any one else that is as time obsessed when they binge or who always binges on the same things..

  28. Kathleen says:

I wouldn’t say I’m time obsessed with binging but definitely when purging. I always time myself.
A lot of my fave binge foods are chosen based on their cost, given that this disease has robbed me of so many thousands of dollars over 15 years.
    -ice cream
-(imitation) oreos in a bowl of almond milk, eaten with a spoon. nothing like oreo purge!
-boxed macaroni and cheese with extra butter
-white bread, butter, peanut butter, and honey sandwiches
    -cereal (peanut butter capt’n crunch)
-graham crackers microwaved with butter and frosting, eaten with a spoon
-quesadillas with gross amounts of cheese, smeared with butter
    -pie and ice cream
Don’t get me started on buffets!

  29. Heather says:

    cereal

    ice cream

    mac n cheese

    brie cheese

    baked goods
