Your Hair Will Thin Or Give You Away

The idea of hair tests make me cringe right now. My boyfriend found a great job earlier this summer, but alas he tested positive for marijuana. It was, of course, the untrickable pre-employment hair test that did him in. But a tainted chemical history isn’t the only thing lurking on top of your head. Apparently all your bad decisions are remembered, even those involving eating disorders.
Whatever hair doesn’t fall out (and trust me, it does get thin and sick, ask my hairstylists) is stamped with a record of your malnutrition.
“Up until now doctors and researchers have had to rely heavily on self-reported information and qualitative interviews with patients,” said Kent Hatch of Brigham Young University’s Department of Integrative Biology. “Data collected this way is often highly subjective and demands honesty from the patient. This test has the potential of providing an objective, biological measure for diagnosing eating disorders.”
Check out the PsychCentral story. It is very interesting, but the implications are a bit frightening. Weeding out people from treatment, forcing people into treatment, refusing to employ me because I just might relapse into a puking mess… Of course, Google and the government are recording our every move, so I bet those late night ice cream runs are already on tape.
