Your True Voice

My daughter raised an interesting issue about the kind of voice we use while writing in a journal. She wondered if someone stumbling on your journal would recognise you as the author. I felt it was an interesting point. Do you use your real voice when writing in your journal? By real I simply mean, do you write as you would speak? Or do you put on a tone or voice because you feel it’s necessary? Well, you tell me.
I discovered that writing as often as possible in my journal is what helped define my true voice. I notice earlier entries tend to sound a bit lifeless, a bit like me trying to impress someone, if that makes sense.
For last week’s Freaky Friday entry I suggested recording a journal entry as part of the exercise. Just stopping at that step might be enough if you feel like checking out your journal writing voice.
