I have no idea how a bunch of kids beating up another kid is a sign of kids maturing more quickly, if anything it's a sign of immaturity, and while putting it up on you tube might be new it's certainly not new behavior.

These kids acted childishly and should be treated as the children they are. Their parents on the other hand need to be treated as adults and involved every step of the way in their children's education into appropriate conflict resolution. In each of these incidents the guardians of these children has been seriously lacking... and that's nothing new either.

This is really a good question. I don't know. I just know that kids today are NOT like kids were when I was growing up, we had fear. Fear of what our parents would do, fear of what the authorities would do, etc. Kids today...well they do not have fear.

With that being said, I still do not know the answer, LOL

I say, we all beat our children while they are still young and teach them how badly it hurts to be beat. Then they won't do it to other people.
I'm totally kidding, of course.
Those individuals who find it accpetable to physically beat up (or even verbally) should undergo some therapy. Can't we devise some sort of rehabilitation facility for misguided and distrubed teens. One that uses positivite approaches instead of just locking them away?
On the other hand, if we brought back the noose and made an example of a few, the rest would be scared shitless and probably think twice before beating on a peer. Just a thought.

Does anyone here remember the 70's show "Scared Straight"?

I think it needs to be resurrected, and fast. I think that all parents should let their kids watch it by age 10, because more and more of these crimes are being committed by kids so young that they can still eat free at certain restaurants.

Many kids, for some reason, think beating other kids is okay; that it's fun. And some even think that jail is cool. But shows like "Scared Straight" go right to the point: Want to beat someone up? Want to be bad? This is where you'll end up--and this is what it's like.

Maybe showing them "the inside" before they end up there might make a difference.

A teenage brain is not developed enough to understand the full weight of their actions. Although I think the juvenile system is failing too - I just don't believe a 16 yr old should be charged as an adult. We have to start looking outside the box on our crime issues. Jail does not rehabilitate..it exacerbates problems that will lead to more crime. Juvenile detention centers do nothing but harden a child. We have to find a better way.
