Gwyneth Paltrow On Using Botox & Finding The “Balance Between Cigarettes And Tofu”

Gwyneth Paltrow is out stumping hard for her new cookbook, It’s All Good, a collection of recipes featuring dust, twigs and cookies you can only think about. As part of her campaign, she’s got a rather ethereal Harper’s Bazaar cover for May. Inside the magazine, the Iron Man star talks aging, marriage and ”finding the balance between cigarettes and tofu”—and apparently Paltrow admits to allowing herself one cigarette a week. More »

I Hate Hair Hearts: Stop Telling Me To Wax My Pubic Hair Because Guys Dig It

I Hate Hair Hearts: Stop Telling Me To Wax My Pubic Hair Because Guys Dig It

A few days ago, I saw the movie Trance with Rosario Dawson and James McAvoy. Without going too into the convoluted plot, there’s a point at which you realize that Dawson has been deeply pressured by another character to fully wax her vulva — a pressure that felt very uncomfortable to watch, as Dawson appeared looking anxious about the decision. It reminded me of my own past inner debate with pubic hair, and also of how glad I am that I’ve stopped caring so much about what other people think of my crotch. More »

Maybe that’s why we love it so much; it’s the challenge of it all. More »

These Storyville Sex Workers From 1912 Had Amazing Style

Storyville was the red light district of New Orleans that flourished magnificently back in the early twentieth century. With its numerous brothels and exciting clubs, it became infamous for its nightlife and residents alike. Bellocq, a “reclusive New Orleans native,” took several photos of sex workers in Storyville, showing the setting of these brothels but also the beauty and style of the women there. More »

Why I Can Eat Meat, But Not Wear Fur

Why I Can Eat Meat, But Not Wear Fur

Look. I don’t really object to fur in a sincere way. I think it looks fantastic. But I still don’t feel quite entirely right about wearing it.

However, when I mention this, a lot of people say “but you eat meat!” I do. I eat a whole ton of meat, pretty un-apologetically. I can debate the best steakhouse in Manhattan with you for a surprisingly long length of time. And yet

Do French Women Age Slower Than British Women?

Do French Women Age Slower Than British Women?

For a long, long time, people have been asking themselves just how French women do things the way they do. “How do they stay so thin?” and “how does she still look so young?” are two of the most common examples, but it’s not exactly a field of study that’s had a whole lot of experimentation done. However, a new survey reveals that French women are perceived to age slower than British women — at least, that’s how the latter feels. More »
