The $400 Haircut (not Charlie’s)

Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo is getting a $400 haircut today. Notes the Associated Press:
Tancredo, a Colorado congressman, will pay $400 for a haircut on Friday — a play on former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards’ $400 cuts, which appeared on campaign spending reports in April.
Tancredo’s $400 fee will be donated to the Autism Society of America, said David Holden, owner of the Hair Biz Salon in Concord, N.H., where the candidate’s coif will get trimmed.
Holden said he got the idea for raising charitable funds after hearing about Edwards’ pricey haircuts, but didn’t immediately pursue it.
“That’s not of any interest to us,” Holden said in a telephone interview. “We had no intention of being malicious.”
Holden’s 12-year-old son, Costica, has autism. Offering the candidates $400 haircuts was a way to raise money for the disorder and learn about government-funded research, he said.
Charlie gets his buzz cuts (got a nice one last Friday) at a local barber. Jim has been taking him there for the past couple of years and Charlie pretty much sits in the chair, squirms a bit, and follows instructions from “Michael the Barber.”
I’m not sure if it even costs $17……..leading me to wonder: What would $400 go to for us…….

Last year I tried a $50 dollar haircut and I left dissatisfied. They had flat screen tvs with ocean waves and dim lights in the shampoo room (you know when your head is in a bowl and your eyes are mostly closed?). The stylists’ area was all in the open and noisy. (but you could have a complimentary gourmet beverage) The stylist didn’t really cut my hair the way I asked (she protested my request).
Supercuts gets my family’s patronage. ($13/adult $12/child)
I’ve had the same experience at the pricey places—-not for me (and I’m overdue myself for a trim)…..we’ll take Charlie to the same place as long as we can. It’s a basic barber shop with photos of the villages in Italy where the barbers are from.
It costs $6 for Nick’s haircuts down on Sunset Blvd. Closer to where we live in an artsy area the salon charges $50. I had a family friend volunteer try that place out for Nick a few years ago and he came back telling me it was fifty bucks.
I usually go to the college to get my haircut - they have one at a small mall and you get a lot of service for a small price.
