Too Little Too Late?: Denis Leary’s Apology

November 1, 2008 by Kristina Chew, PhD

So Denis Leary issues an apology—what if he’d just not said a word about autism in the first place?

And allow me to air a frustration: Leary’s gotten quite a lot of attention (however negative) for his comments and become a subject of discussion in the autism community. But I think I’d prefer to spend the time talking about autistic persons, rather than the ultra-uninformed mouthings of the likes of Leary. ‘Nuff said!

I dont think an apology is enough. Thats the problem with people speaking n making comments like he did. They should just keep their mouths shut.

  2. Liz Ditz says:

I am withholding judgment until I can actually read the chapter in question. The book won’t be in bookstores for another two weeks.

  3. Regan says:

“As a parent of a child with autism, I feel he owes the autism community the money he is making for using what has quickly become an epidemic in our country as a cheap ploy to sell his book,” said [Comedian Mark] Ramirez. “He should donate a portion of his sales to assist children with autism.”

I agree. Sorry is as sorry does.

  4. Another Voice says:

Hopefully, his sad little book will remain on book shelves at the store forever. Why would anybody spend good money to read mindless dribble???

  5. Alejandra Valdez says:

I guess washed up, has been actors have to find another way to make a buck. Hes a total jerk!! Cant believe that book will be out on shelves and people will want to read what that idiot had to say. Hes picking on kids like my son that are at no fault for this illness! Has anyone checked if he has a mental illness?

  6. hammie says:

well he is still an ar*ehole.
agree with you Kristina, don’t give him anymore google hits with posts about him.
Sorry to say but it sounds like the Tropic Thunder thing again. Film about to flop so they use the R word in promo clips and viral media to stir up controversy; D.L has a book out so he uses the A word to stir up interest in his book.
I have already ordered the excellent Stephen Fry’s America book on Ebay and am looking forward to it. So Stephen FRY Stephen FRY, He deserves the google hits.

  7. Regan says:

    Stephen Fry rocks.

  8. I am going to wait and read the book someday. I found this post/link on http://www.nestin.com and also another similar site that is in beta - http://www.arogavox.com have you seen it? They are looking for reporters, need to click that link to learn more.
