How long can you leave your naughty children in a “time out” before you’re really enjoying the time off too much?

Erm…did somebody rat me out?
My problem with timeout is that I tend to get distracted and forget that my son is in there. I mean, sometimes it’s impossible to forget b/c he’s screaming the whole time, but sometimes he starts talking to himself and I get distracted with one of the other two kids clamoring for my attention, and his time has passed and then some!!! A timer is the best tool for both of us. If I set it, he knows that he’s free once the bell goes, and I hear the bell and remember to go deal with the situation. (I feel like Pavlov’s dog right now, minus the drooling.
)
Hahahahahahahaha
Seriously, in my house, he might just fall asleep in a timeout and result in 2 hours of rest for everyone.
