10-year-old Gives Birth

This made me so mad just seeing the headlines, but it gets worse as these weren’t parents that just let their daughter roam free and she got “knocked up” as many would put it. But this 10-year-old was the victim of rape by 37-year-old Guadalupe Gutierrez-Juarez, who thankfully is in prison.
She gave birth to a little girl this past Saturday at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg, Idaho. There is no other information on the birth or how the two are doing, nor is there on how long Guadalupe will be behind bars, but for this 10-year-old’s sake I hope it is for life.
Outrageous! And even worse, this happened not to far from my hometown of Idaho Falls…
I hear now they aren’t sure what will happen with the baby and that he may (after all) not be facing charges. I know he was reportedly an illegal.
This is horrible.
In my opinion she should have got an abortion.
I mean, come on. Ten years old? Thats just stupid.
No ten year old should have to go threw that.
I am normally a pacifist and a liberal. I believe there are often reasons why people behave badly. But this is where my liberal philosophy breaks down. *If* we could be certain of the man’s guilt (and sometimes thats a big if), nothing short of a natural life sentence or execution would suffice. As I type the words, my sense of forgiveness and mercy tugs at my heart. Then I think, how would I feel if my daughter was the victim… Forgiveness, my ass!
