[...] March the 8th is International Women’s Day. In North America and much of Western Europe it is a day of activism in certain quarters of the women’s movement. It is a day to remember the women who fought to have their labours recognised as valuable and necessary. It is a day to give thanks that we are persons under the law, exactly the way it should always have been. It is a time to remember in some countries on this planet, donkeys have better lives than women simply because to be a woman is to deserve disrespect. [...]

[...] When I begin the preparations for Christmas, I think of other mothers. Mothers who can’t buy their children presents. Mothers who struggle to buy food. Mothers who lose their own lives or their children because they can’t afford medical care or transportation to the nearest clinic. [...]

Sweden is an amazing country to have little children in. So much is done to help parents to be good for the children - I love that about sweden.

I am also very aware on my luck...not just about being a mother here, but to live in a country where we see it as our right to have a safe place to live, and food many times per day if we want.

Still, why is it so hard to be happy?

[...] I’ve been a bit slack about my own Mothers’ Day shopping. My mother has an active social conscience and enough posessions to fill her house. So, based on the Save the Children report on the state of the world’s mothers, I’ve decided to give her social conscience a gift (you’d think her conscience would get full too, but no, like her capacity for love, it keeps getting bigger and bigger).
