A Theory

On Sunday I said that most weight loss schemes and theories are based on poor science. That illustrious standard set, I have a few of my own weight loss theories I’d like to share with the world. The first is especially for post partum mothers.
The tight pants theory.

I could squeeze myself into my pre-pregnancy jeans two weeks after giving birth. They fit, they were just bloody uncomfortable.

When I look at my poor belly, I see a stretched-out, stretch marked, rash scratched, beaten and pathetic thing. I feel sorry for it, but I wanted to get pregnant, I wanted my babies, and this body is evidence of my desire for motherhood fulfilled.

No, I will not punish my poor belly with tight trousers.

Now, I am a writer. I work at home in front of my computer where no one can see me get spit up on about 7 times a day, but that doesn’t mean sweat pants shouldn’t be an essential part of your post-partum wardrobe too. Put them on. They’re soft, roomy and comfortable.

You just have to pull on the tight pants before you sit down to eat. Then you’ll only be able to stuff so much more in.

  1. I’m definitely a fan of the Tight Pants Theory. :) Thanks for sharing this poorly neglected, but definitely comment-worthy post.

  1. [...] You may have noticed that, as a the writing genius I know I am, I have always felt neglected and unappreciated for my talents. Especially in the area of my expertise in the arena of weight loss. My tight pants theory, my cook for the kids idea, all consigned to the margins of weight loss literature. And yet, I did weigh 223 pounds in January of 1999. and now I weigh about much, much less (although, I still have some work to do). [...]
