Are We having a Baby Boom?

Reports are beginning to come up stating we may be in yet another …. baby boom. What’s your thoughts? Here are some interesting things to think about:

-  over populated with children

-  growth of children

-  record breaking highs in teen pregnancy

-  more multiple births

-  infertility

-  more abandoned babies found in trash cans, toilets, left in trash bags

-  orphanages in the US becoming FULL

Now those are just a facts and you could chitchat here about why your think each is the way it is. For instance we are overpopulated because we have more children today than we did 100 years ago. Is this because we are having our teens get pregnant too or that we are supporting those that give birth at 8- so others want to see if they can do it too. Yes, there is a huge growth number in children, we’ve had just a little over 4,300,000 babies born in the year 2007 alone. Can you picture what that number would be for just the beginning of this year? Or for the past 100 years? Eeek. While I’m not saying we should do what China does and limit our births, I have four of my own, but we might want to be careful before someone does suggest it.

I think another thing is we glorify those teen pregnancies such as Jamie Lynn Spears, Britney Spears and I’m sure there are other Teen celebrities that I can’t think of. Currently we’ve been talking about the 17 teens that made a vow to get pregnant just so they could raise their kids together and work as a support group. Today, we are using more things we didn’t have 100 years back such as all the infertility, fertility items (sorry don’t know the name), that can help get us pregnant and it seems more of these treatments does this a little too good. While I’m not downing it because those happy couples get their prides and joys, they end up with multiple births. Recently heard about a mom giving birth to triplets, no quads, no…. well you get the drift.

I applaud that we can actually do this and wonder at the same time if the reason we seem to have a larger number is become the media makes it look it. We are able to keep a record more now than 100 years ago, we don’t even know for sure if the numbers are accurate. But what we do know is that every day babies are tossed out like garbage, left in bags on some strangers doorstep, drowned in toilets or tried to be and discovered inside hotel rooms. Some are actually left at police stations, fire stations, churches or the hospital but the sad thing is, it is happening a little too much. Is the reason it is happening because as a society today we’ve made everything too easy? 100 years ago people had morals and yes today some of us still do but if you really, really look at society we are losing it. Now I ask, with the economy going downhill at such a fast rate, people going homeless because gas prices, food prices and their own housing cost is just too much, jobless, etc, can we really afford to have another ‘baby boom’? What are your thoughts?
