Babies At Work

There’s a new trend starting up and it isn’t just something work-at-home-moms do now. Bringing your baby to work is actually a program that will allow moms to bring their child to work with them. Umm, is this a good idea?
I’ve heard of Daycare Centers being built in work buildings but this is not what I mean. Instead, moms are being allowed to bring their baby to work with them. Imagine your 4-month-old sitting in a booster chair at your desk. As you type he/she is typing beside you. While I totally love my kids being at home with me while I’m at work, I must wonder how this new program will work inside office buildings. What will happen if the baby spills his/her juice, or cries during an office call?
For new moms, I can see how this would definitely make her feel better and keep her going back to work after the baby is born. But at the same time it does raise other questions. What’s your thought on this? Would you go back to work if you could bring your infant back with you? It would save on childcare that’s for sure.
At what age would this stop though?
Baby? Toddler? Preschooler?
No matter what age this stops there’s still the difficulty in paying for childcare & of course the added mommy guilt no matter what you choose.
I can’t see some moms wanting their kids at work. Work is an escape. While others wont work all that much as they’ll be too busy playing, feeding & cuddling.
Will the babies have room to bounce and lie and kick or will they be stuck in a car seat all day?
What about when they start crawling, making noise for the hell of it and have a grizzly day?
What about when they’re crabby after innoculations?
This is only for those mommies with a high level job it’s not going to help those women who are bank tellers, cashiers or in the police now is it.
According to the article they are letting them stay there for the first 6 months. Like you said they still have to deal with finding a sitter after that time, but now they’ll miss not seeing them after having them at work for 6 months.
I know I would. I’m just imagining a baby that has colic. Oh my!
For the first four months or so I could have worn my little one in a sling and no one would have known the difference. When he started sitting and needing so see the world … and move about the world (around four or five months?), I would have had to have made other arrangements.
I’ve worked in small family businesses where this worked extremely well – except it was only open to the family that owned the business.
The employees who had children weren’t allowed to bring their children to work. We had to get babysitters for things like spring break, summer vacation and after school.
I can’t imagine being allowed to bring my baby to my little cube at my corporate office building though. But, would it really have been more distracting than listening to the girl in connecting cube describe her ring worm for hours a day, weeks on end? Certainly surfing the net during down time, but not being allowed to leave to go see my kid wasn’t productive either.
wow… yet another vision of the super mom! Working AND looking after a baby <6 months old sounds incredible. It’s like me trying to juggle and brush my teeth at the same time… impossible! But then, I’m just an ordinary guy…
