Babies Thrown Off Temple for Good Luck

FoxNews.com is reporting about a tradition that is done every year in India, I’m not sure on the name but the basic idea is to drop babies off 50 ft from the roof of a temple and landing on a cloth sheet. Once the baby lands on the sheet they bounce, this is considered good luck or health. I have no clue how they think this would be good luck unless they consider the baby not making it to be the bad luck. According to reports there have been no accidents. But I must say I’d never throw my babies off a roof so I’m not recommending this. In fact this tradition really scares me. Can’t this hurt a baby’s brain? Whiplash? Something?
The temple is the Baba Sheikh Umar Saheb Dargah temple and believe it or not they’ve been doing this for 500 years. Eeek.
The below are footage I found of the event. This is not something to watch if you are weak in stomache. I jumped at the screen when I saw it.

How does the baby not snap it’s neck? I’m just dazed.
I have no idea, I keep wondering the same thing.
Babies bounce. Their necks don’t snap, their bones are bendy.
I’m not condoning the practice, I just think babies are the coolest creatures in the world that they can come through all the stuff we throw at them, and this is just one more thing…
