Baby Born on Don Valley Parkway

I just LOVE these interesting birth stories, but am always thankful they weren’t about me. I’ll never forget rushing to ER with baby #3 and almost giving birth in the car, contractions on top of one another, waiting for the pizza to be delivered, but that’s another story.

This past week a Toronto highway got a bit of history made, baby history that is. Debbie McDonald was on her way to the Toronto hospital but they didn’t quite make it. Debbie knew they weren’t going to make it to the hospital no matter how much her husband, Vulpien Nzopfabarushe, swerved through traffic. At least not when she began feeling the little guy coming out.

Her husband pulled swiftly to the side of the highway and called 911. The dispatcher walked both soon-to-be-parents through the birthing. When their baby boy was born the cord was wrapped around his neck, but a quick thinking daddy got it off and wrapped the cord with shoestring. Even a tow truck driver stopped to help and kept traffic from hitting them.

The couple got to the hospital safely and the baby and mom are doing fine, the little boy weighed 9lbs 7oz and named him Shane Don. He has 5 brothers he will be meeting soon.
