Baby Found Dead With Umbilical Cord

February 25, 2009 by Eliza Ferree

A baby girl was found dead in Union County North Carolina, she was inside a burning pile this past Tuesday. The strange thing was the remains and burning pile were on the property of a woman that had been running errands all day, she claimed that she found the pile and the baby once she arrived home.

She said at first she thought it was a doll, but when she got closer she realized it wasn’t. She ran inside to check on her own 5-month-old daughter.

“All I could think about is that poor little baby. It must have suffered,” she said.

This is just awful, I can only imagine what this woman went through when she realized the doll wasn’t a doll but real. Plus you think immediately about the mother of the child and where she is or how she is. They stated the umbilical cord was still attached to the infant. There is an investigation going on and they are following leads, but so far I don’t see an update yet.

That is so sad! Why can’t people just take their babies to the hospital and drop them off? At least then, they’ll have a chance at life.

Hi Karen, yes I agree, I wish they would too. As of right now they are trying to determine whether or not the baby was stillborn or not.

I am currently 2 mts pregnant & this story crushes my heart. But to the ladies whom spoke above, I too agree. I’m curious to know not only who is responsible, but how did they find the burn pile in the first place? Did they know the house was there and unoccupied at that time? I pray for the unknowing family of this poor baby girl. May God be with them. ~Crystal

this story just floored me.is there a safe haven law in this state? i have a three month old and i would leave him on someones doorstep first. it would never cross my mind to do that kind of harm to my child!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Davids says:

This happened in Tucson, Arizona not very long ago. The mother was in her second year of college and their was a safe haven where moms can drop off babies anonymously 3 blocks away. Devastating IMO

My best friends Aunt found this baby…I couldn’t believe it when she was telling me the story. I have a 3 yr old and a 14 month old….I could never think about doing harm to them. I dont know how a mother could carry a child for 9 months and then just leave it to die and not even care enough to go to the hospital and give the child a chance to live. No child ask to be here we bring them into this world. Why should the baby suffer? I just don’t understand it.
