Baby Found with Pacifier Taped to Mouth

Now I know there are some out there that get frustrated with their baby, especially after lack of sleep and your baby still won’t quit crying. I haven’t dealt with this much, not even with four children, but I have had a few of those sleepless nights. But that is NOT a reason to tape a pacifier to your 4-week-old baby’s mouth. So what if the thing keeps popping out of his/her mouth, it will do that. Be prepared to pop it right back in, he/she doesn’t know any better.
A young couple (age 18 & 19) that are new parents are being charged today after police found the couple’s baby in a car seat with a pacifier taped to his/her mouth. There has been no release of names or if the baby is a boy or a girl. They were spotted at a traffic light when an officer saw the tape on the infant.
My guess is since they were in a car, they may have thought by taping it to his/her mouth this would’ve prevented it slipping out before they stopped. Not realizing this could be looked at as abuse or worse that it could’ve suffocated him/her.
TIP: Do NOT tape a pacifier to your child’s mouth. It is okay to strap it to a pacifier bib that keeps it from getting lost but not the MOUTH.

Those pacifier clips are great especially when the baby is in the carseat facing backwards.
But if you do clip it to the bib, make sure the clip is one approved for that function so that the cord will be short enough to guarantee that it cannot end up choking the kid.
The little piece I read in the paper this morning said the child was not restrained in a car seat at all.
This same thing happened to me only I walked in to find that my child had a binkie taped in her mouth by the baby sitter. I have been desperately trying to get it out in the media that this is not an ok behavior but noone seems to want to listen. This is yet another case of this happening since my daughter’s incident that may have been prevented if the media will just listen and cover some stories on this.

that was the dumbest thing in the world to do! not only could they have killed the child from suffocation but if the child had swallowed the tape it would have choked. parents young or old .. think tice about putting tape over your childs mouth…. IDIOT
