Baby Girl Born at 23-weeks-old Lives

This is such amazing news and I’m sure it’ll bring controversy around the abortion vs. non-abortion rallies for a while. But a little girl by the name of Ellie-Suzanne Fish was born at 23-weeks old.

For those that don’t know a legal abortion is okay at up to 24-weeks of a pregnancy. However, this little girl was actually born at 23-weeks old and has recently went home after 9-months of being in hospital care. Doctors never thought the tiny baby (embryo as some would call her) would ever survive. Skin wasn’t even totally created yet and they could see her blood coursing through her tiny body.

When she was born she only weighed 1lb 4.7oz and today weighs 14lbs. Talk about your miracle baby, while she isn’t completely out of the woods, she’s already beaten most of the odds of living. Source

Actually, the time period for an abortion to be “legal” depends on the state (or country) you’re in. In my state, for example, a woman cannot have an abortion after 20 weeks unless her life is seriously in danger or the child to be born has grave defects.

hi there, where we live in new zealand there not allowed 2 do abortions after 12 weeks in dunedin but if there was a health problem with your baby they can terminate up to 20 weeks after that they would be sent to christchurch where they do thurapetic terminations up to 24 weeks i think its discusting as i had a wee girl born at 20 weeks following a infection in her placentor and she was born alive and lived for 26 minutes :)

I wanted to reply because as a 23 weeker(23 weeks 3 days) I was born 2lbs 3oz. and barely 12 inches long. I was born August 13, 1975… yes you read that correctly. my success of survival may have been because my parents were both in the US Army and had military hospital for medical care, I’m not sure. I’m 33 years old today and mostly normal aside from depression/anxiety disorder. I don’t remember anyone saying I had learning disabilities but I do remember my little sister 21 months younger than I am, (very normal pregnancy with her.) she seemed to learn faster and taught me many things including, jumping rope, tying my shoes, to learning my abc’s and reading and writing.
My grandmother said I asked alot of questions growing up and everyone has stories about how cute, and tiny and sweet i was growing up.

I was in the NICU for 6 months after I was born and had been given a 50/50 chance of surviving. I have had many strange unexplained extremely high fevers. up to 104.7, to
re-occuring upper respiratory infections, hypoglycemia, and i fought anemia in my teens.
I had bowel problems, and weak kidneys…to this day I have a very low tolerant bladder, when i have to go… I have to go. I didn’t stop wetting the bed til I was 12. My bowels, well I have to watch what I eat, I learned to eat lots of fiber, and prunes at an early age… and still only make a bowel movement every 3 or sometimes 4 days.

My anemia has since disappeared after I relinquished the ideology of vegetarianism and my hypoglycemia has improved since I became a licensed practical nurse in 1996. The learning also required nutrition as a course so needless to say I learned how to control that shaky sick feeling I would get when I didn’t eat enough.

I haven’t had pneumonia or brochitis for some years now. Knock on wood… but good handwashing and few other preventative things i learned in nursing school helped with that as well.

I have had 4 children of my own… I have an incompetent cervix and each pregnancy was a fight to keep my children. I question why people wait so long to abort their babies, and know there are reasons that warrant the need for them, but I have issues with people who wait too long, or have them for less than reasonable or logical explanations.

I think that the technology for early detection of fetal developments as well as tests and 3D ultrasounds that can see problems is advance enough to find health issues early. Hopefully through genetic research we will find more ways to detect early enough so that babies who have the potential to live will not have to die such a painful way and mothers can feel confident in the early detections without having to give birth because there isn’t another option.

believe in miracles… even if you don’t believe in God or a higher power you must know there are things unexplainable and seen as phenomenon’s of nature. Energy is indestructible therefore if you understand this, then all living things have energy.
