Controversy about The Baby Borrowers

Since I hit publish one thing has been bugging me about my post on “NBC’s The Baby Borrowers.” Where are the real mom and dad? It seems I’m not the only one, but I had thought maybe these were babies without a mom and dad and they were hoping to adopt them through the show. It seems this is NOT the case.

So, here’s a new question….is it good for a baby to be passed around like a doll? In The Baby Borrowers, these babies are with these 5 teen couples as if they were their own. Will this not mess them up? I’m sure some will think don’t you send your child to stay with grandma and grandpa during the summer and isn’t this the same thing? First, I don’t do that. Second, no, they are at least relatives. These are people they may have never met, strangers and don’t we teach our children later in years not to talk with strangers, let alone go in their house or car with them?

Summer over at Attached Mother is voicing up about this too. She’s not the only one, a person behind the scenes at the show voiced up and got fired. They were tossed off the show as the show wants the ratings. She’s even linked to an open letter from Jan Hunt to NBC.

I couldn’t possibly imagine being one of the moms of these REAL babies and handing my child over for something like this. I mean this is my baby, what if something happened? Even if nothing happened these are precious moments you aren’t going to get back. These parents agreed for the show to “Borrow” them for 3 whole weeks!

Before you think mom just left the baby it has been reported that mom and dad were only next door but left all responsibility up to the kids. Now of course they were probably monitoring a camera the whole time and came over and chewed a child out for letting the baby cry too long or not watching close enough but I’m not sure. I can only hope.

I did find this video of one of the REAL moms stepping in to make sure her baby got fed. The mom is watching (kind of like SuperNanny) on video and the teen gets upset the baby won’t eat and says, “Fine starve.” Mom immediately shows up to instruct her how to feed the baby and that as a mom you must feed the baby regardless of whether he or she wants to eat. You are the parent and you must make the decision.

Miley’s daddy comes to visit the parents when he sees his little girl constantly crying instead of laughing. But once she sees her she livens up and is fun once again.

So as you can see there IS parents nearby. But it would still be too hard for me to not be there with mine. What’s your take on it? Is this show too much for the babies?  Keep in mind not all the baby’s are infants, some are toddlers.
