Expensive Process, Pregnancy and Birth

How much do you think having your baby cost? Naturally, these are US amounts, so if you live elsewhere, like me, just try and imagine how much an uncomplicated birth in the USA costs. Got a number in mind?
$7600
The average cost of having a baby in the US, from the prenatal care through to delivery, is about $7,600 says News and Numbers from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The total, taken from 2004 data, includes hospital childbirth, prenatal doctor’s office visits, prescriptions, and other services.
If you think that’s unreasonable, start reading A Child Chosen, B5’s new adoption blog. Adoption sounds even more expensive and a lot more complicated.

wow.
Seeing that amount up there is scary. I’m so glad that we have the NHS, there wouldn’t be a chance in hell I could afford that ever!
I did look into the costs for a private hospital birth when I was pregnant, as I wanted an epidural and my local hospital doesn’t offer them. not only are there no privatehospitals near me that have birthing facilities, but if I did find one, it’d cost me around £5-6000. Ouch, I think that’d be more painful than the actual labour!
Well, Mod Mum, the repayments would be one thing that lasted longer than labour.
ha ha ha, given the increases I’ve had with my labours, I’m not so sure about that
I should do a post on what it costs. You would be amazed.
Our first son…30,000+
Our second was going to be about 35,000 but will now run in the mid 20’s because we will be in the US.
Now, this does not count the almost 15,000 in infertility treatments we did prior and the 20,000 we have used in medical care since.
Pickel! How did you manage? You definitely have to post on the topic!
My parents told me the other day that they will be the official “investors” for all my infertility/adoption/birthing costs. I’d be completely screwed if it wasn’t for them.
It’s much better than an inheritance, any way.
Rachel, that is awesome. We have had help with ours as well. It makes a world of difference.
Yeah, now I just need my doctors to come to some kind of a consensus on what’s medically wrong with me!
