One of a parents biggest fears when they have a newborn is SIDS, it’s one of those giant 4-letter words. According to a new study fans may actually help in preventing SIDS. I don’t know about you but the study from Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine says:
Babies who slept in a room with a fan were 72% less likely to die from SIDS, according to a study released today from Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine. The study included interviews with the mothers of 185 infants who died from SIDS and the mothers of 312 other babies.
So, how many of you will be adding a fan to your newborn’s room? I know I would, actually we have a ceiling fan in every room. Doctors are still unsure why fans have helped but are definitely looking into it. Or could be the fact that babies only get the air nearest and a fan circulates and brings them fresh air. For those of you that are unaware, SIDS claims over 2000 babies a year, the more research we can do the better.
