Forgotten Work Culture

Every Mother is a Working Woman bumper sticker
There are some things I had forgotten about working away from home.

1. Commuting during rush hour changes the way one feels about humanity. And not in a positive way. At least, I can get a little reading done while avoiding eye contact with those around me.

2. You have to shower every day.

3. You have to wear clothes that look professional rather than just writing intelligent-sounding email messages.

4. If you fall asleep in the middle of the day, people look at you funny.

5. You can talk to other adults. You can even mention your baby.

But, something are completely new.

For example, before I had kids I used to feel RESTED after sleeping in on Saturday or Sunday morning. Now, I just feel like Monday is another deadline to get the house cleaned, the laundry sorted and healthy meals planned. I must say Saturday and Sunday are now the most stressful days of the week.

And, nicely, I have to put pictures of the kids in my wallet. Instead of just letting people look in the stroller, I have to show an image of the little ones I am always talking about. At least, that one thing is easier.
