Apparently women on maternity leave feel they are “invisible” at work, says a new study.
A report from the Scotsman on research published today in the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology quotes Dr Lynne Millward of Surrey University as saying that women often find it difficult to return to work after being on maternity leave.
Staying in contact with colleagues and friends from the office, however, makes it easier.
So if you’re thinking of putting in an appearance at work to show off the baby, make a lunch date to dish on office gossip, client tantrums and the new order of things. And be sure to drop into conversation the fact that you’ve been reading trade magazines and keeping up to date in your field while you’re away.
It may just keep you in your job once you return to work.
