Further Therapy for Infertility: Picture Freud with a Red Nose

Ok. Let me add to my earlier post. Talk therapy does seem to lower stress levels and help women experiencing one kind infertility, conceive.

Score 1 for Herr Doctor Freud.

NODDER - FREUDWe all know that infertility isn’t funny, BUT according to a study conducted at Assaf Harofeh Medical Centre in Zerifin, Isreal, laughter is actually still the best medicine. The hospital introduced clown-therapy to women undergoing IVF and increased their odds of conceiving to 1 in 3 from 1 in 5 says a report in The Scotsman.

  • “To our surprise we found a significant difference between the women who were exposed to clowning,” Dr Shevach Friedler, a trained mime artist and fertility doctor at the centre told the Scotsman.
  • “Some 33 of the 93 women entertained for 10 to 15 minutes by the professional clown conceived, compared with 18 patients among the same group who did not receive a performance, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology meeting in Prague heard,” said the article.

So, if you don’t have kids yet, that’s no excuse not to go to the circus. In fact, if you’re undergoing IVF treatments, go and sit in the front row. Either that, or visit Comic Mummy’s blog and we’ll have to convince her to write a few infertility jokes.
Score 1 for the clowns.
