I Thought It Was Just Me

As some of you may know, I pay some of the bills by working as a technology columnist. So, when I have wanted computers and electronics as gifts, I thought it was a comment on my personal geekiness. And possibly my friend Anne’s geekiness. And maybe Heather’s. And the other mothering members of my gang.
But no! Other mothers are as nerdy as I am. Really! I cannot tell you the comfort this brings to me. According to an article in the Globe and Mail, mothers like to get electronics as gifts just as much as fathers do.
- …consumers spent more than $865-million (on electronic) in the week before Mother’s Day, up 9 per cent from last year’s $791-million. Spending for the week before Father’s Day was about $873-million, up 3 per cent from last year’s $846-million.
- Some of the hot items for Mother’s Day: digital cameras, which increased 27 per cent in unit sales this year; portable music players, which jumped 40 per cent; and satellite navigation systems, which shot up more than fourfold.
In case you’re wondering, I got a lie-in for Mother’s Day, but this would have been nice too.

Maybe the kids can run a lemonade stand and buy me one next year…

I keep telling my husband that he’s turning me into a cybergeek. I can feel it more and more with each post I write and with every battle we have for the laptop. Who knew?
Just wait until you feel yourself having the following thought:
“There’s something really satisfying about making manual mark-up corrections.”
Then you know the damage is permanent.
