Introducing the Mistakes & Lessons Learned Group Writing Project

It’s time for babylune to pick up the example set by Mommablogga and Problogger to run a group writing project. With a prize.

The idea is simple. I set a theme. All of you then write a post on the theme for your own blogs. Link back to this post in yours with a short description of the writing project. Finally, in case I don’t get the trackback, leave the URL to your post in the comments section below.

Every morning, I’ll post all of the entries from the previous day.

The contest is open now and closes at 11:59 PM on Thursday, 14 June, 2007.

The final entries will be posted on Friday, 15 June, 2007. On Saturday the 16th, I’ll announce the results of a random draw of all eligible posts to receive the winning blogger’s choice of a $24.95 gift voucher from Amazon or $24.95 in virtual cash via PayPal (it has to be under $25 US to avoid potential tax penalties for the winner).

Posts that aren’t on the theme or aren’t suitable for family reading will be disqualified at my dictatorial discretion.

Now for the theme:

Tell us all about a parenting mistake you’ve made, what you’ve learned from it and how you’re trying to make sure it will never happen again. Here’s mine.

Obviously, if you are the kind of parent to be featured on Parents Behaving Badly, we don’t want to hear from you. Not at all.

Instead, we want to hear from people recognize that, while there is no such thing as a perfect parent, trying to do better is good for the whole population.

Let the group writing project begin!

As I’m not a parent, I’m not entering the contest - but I did post a blog entry. Some of my readers are parents.

  2. Mama Zen says:

What a great idea for a writing group project! I hope this post qualifies!

Michele- Thanks so much for the support at your blog. I hope this is a GWP your readers will like.

Mama Zen- That is an absolutely fantastic entry!

  4. Jenny says:

I wrote my entry on my blog and it sent a pingback, but it may have gone into the spam thing. So just letting you know my post is up!

  5. kbaggott says:

Jenny- You were right. The pingback did go into the spam eater, but I fished it out and read your post. I will never touch you son’s cars so long as I live.

  6. Your story reminds me of the time I let Hayden play with a closed bottle of tabasco sauce.

There was sauce on the outside of the bottle. Fingers in mouth = screams in pain.

  7. kbaggott says:

Jordan- Thank you so much for the comment. I feel a lot less stupid now.

  8. Tracee Sioux says:

    Kate,

Here is my entry for the contest, Self-Loathing Sin Bank. It’s about transfering our own negative body image onto our girls and how to conscious decision to stop doing it before it turns into self-loathing or eating disorders and other distructive behavior.

I’m a newby, not retarded. I swear. I reissued the article with a link and a paragraph about the contest at the end.

    Hi Kate.

Not sure if my entry linked back to your entry.

Here’s my entry to the GWP:

    Thank you.

  13. jeanie says:

Hey there - I did a post for your writing project today - http://jeanieinparadise.blogspot.com/2007/06/choices-in-motherhood.html

I have been enjoying the other entries and tried not to get too carried away with my wordiness (as is my wont)

  14. Husbandhood says:

I heard about this project from Rory over at hamelife.com and decided to enter. I think its a great idea.

Just as an aside, I spoke with Darren last week about his group writing projects and he told me that all submissions have to be written specifically for the project and not from a previously written post. I’m assuming this is not the case with this project.

  15. kbaggott says:

    These are great entries everyone!

Note to Husbandhood - No, I am not worried about when the posts were written, as long as they link back to the GWP.

I do think Darren’s rule is a good one. I think it makes for fresh and interesting work and for making a contribution toward a better blogging culture.

That said, parent blogging is already a hobby done on borrowed time. Too many rules and NOTHING would ever get written. So, I think we can relax a bit on that point.

  16. Anne-Marie says:

Just in case you don’t get the trackback, my post is at http://mamarant.blogs.com/a_mamas_rant/2007/06/a_mistake_that_.html.

Great idea. Look forward to the next one.

  17. kbaggott says:

Anne- Marie- Thanks! I’ve got your post ready to run tomorrow.

  18. Kerri says:

    Here it is! http://www.mynameismommy.com/2007/06/14/to-do-things-differently/

I wasn’t serious about getting it in at 11:59. Oh! it’s 12. yikes!

  19. kbaggott says:

    You’re in Kerri!

  20. Kerri says:

*whew* Thanks! :) Are you already up for the day?

  21. kbaggott says:

I had a stressful night, so when the baby woke up at 5:30, I couldn’t get back to sleep. I might go lie down for another hour and see if I can rest and meditate.

  22. Kerri says:

:( I hope so, for your sake!
