Jon & Kate Plus 8 add Dogs

Jon & Kate plus 8 have really done it now, they went and bought 2 brand new puppies. Yes, puppies, not just one puppy or some older dogs, but two very active puppies. They went around petting a bunch of dogs before finally settling down on the two.
Then names of the two german shepherds that they picked out are Shooka and Nala. I wonder if they thought about all those pee and poop spots that they’d have to go back to doing. It was one thing cleaning up after 6 little bottoms but a whole other when dogs come into the picture. Before anyone asks they names were picked out by Kate herself, little Joel tried naming one Scott and she quickly voted it out.
Oh but watching the dogs pee on her carpet was totally worth it. Come on we all know how that goes, if you have a clean house and add a puppy it isn’t always going to be clean. Bringing home a puppy is just like bringing home a baby, you’ll have to constantly give it love and attention.
But there is a silver lining for Kate, getting these dogs will hopefully get the kids to pick up after themselves. Otherwise they’ll lose all their precious toys in the mouths of their young pups.

I saw the show and as a experienced dog owner and animal lover the only thing I can say is……….WHAT WERE THEY THINKING……….
8 kids and they add 2 german shepherd pups into the mix………..ouch!!!!!! Hopefully they will re- consider the decision to have 2 pups
at this point, one would have even tooooo much!
I am shocked by the way these beautiful dogs are treated–especially by Kate who obviously cannot stand them. Any ethical breeder would have thought twice then declined to sell to a family so unprepared, so unqualified, and so undeserving to own a GS ( let alone 2 of them!!! ). Good God, I feel so sorry for those dogs.
no, it would teach the kids responsibility. and even then its not that much as each kids work is basically reduced by 8:P
While I don’t completly agree with them getting 2 dogs, there are benefits to it as well. having2 pups with 8 kids increases the amount of time each child can play with a puppy, having 8 kids allows each dog to get PLENTY of people time. The puppies will be able to play with each other when the people isn’t around.
I raise and show Standard poodles, and I was really hoping they would get a poodle, but shepherds make great family dogs, and the dogs will have plenty of excersise with such a large family. There are good reasons for Parents naming the dogs for one that way they aren’t all fighting over the names, and they picked names the kids could all say.
I for one applaud the Gosslins in taking a chance and getting pets for their family
YAY
I’ve raised a german shepherd from 9 weeks until now at 5 yrs old. Let me say that if Kate doesn’t get on the ball soon and I mean real soon, she’s going to have so many children with bites and nips because these dogs need to learn where their place is in the family right away. I heard Maddy say she has to bathe the dogs everyday… ARE U FRICKIN KIDDING ME!!! Ya lets do that Maddy and totally give the puppies the worst skin ever. I can’t believe those morons, Kate even said she could live her entire life without a dog. So why is she doing this to two innocent little puppies, and because of stupidity on her part, will probably spend their entire lives outside and never knowing what lying in front of a fireplace in the winter can feel like. Or just being close to their human companions at bedtime. My dog sleeps on the floor next to my bed every night. As for training, she needed to go to school to learn the things I wanted her to know. I sure hope we don’t find these two dogs neglected later on when they aren’t “puppies” anymore and too hard to handle. GRRR!!!!
awesome comments hannah. and since kate is such a ’saint,’ perhaps she should consider giving these beautiful pups back to their breeder so that they will get a home that’s actually a home! this thoroughly sickens me. such an incredible breed of dog needs and deserves an equally incredible ‘owner.’
I was really surprised when they decided to get TWO puppies. I just hope they stay on top of the training, because if they do not the puppies will bond with only each other. This is usually a reason people should not get two puppies from the same litter. They may have a hard time bonding with their human companions, thus making it more difficult to train. That, and they learn “pack mentality” and can use each other to gang up on the kids and even Jon and Kate.
I hope they get these dogs trained, because even the most obedient shepherds can be unpredictable!
Ahem,
ARE THEY CRAZY? I love the show. I am a teenager and my mom and I watch it and while I watch it my mom is screaming at the TV saying how Kate is such a female dog. lol. But I think they have gone to far. First, Kate is a neatfreak…Second she stated that she knew very little about dogs. EVEN THE BREED. I know she wants a gaurd dog and crap but GSD I don’t think are good for first time owners; With kids!! Ugh, It gets me mad as heck i’ll tell you. I,Being and dog freak. I know everything about dogs. Ask me anything and I would be glad to respond. Oh and another thing. My God Kate is really dumb she was like “I want a short haired dog because they don’t shed a lot’ PSH PSH PSH, German Shepherds shed like CRAZY. ugh, It makes me made so I will leave

Ciao,
Carly
well Carly you are so right. I own a german shepherd and I vaccum everyday. Kate is slightly braindead I think. Maybe she can call Cesar milan for help. I read that they have a chef and housekeer so maybe they’ll get a trainer too. Must be nice to lay around all day while the hired help does everything and all you do is whine LOL.
dear Jon and Kate
I saw your dogs they are very cute and if you
dont want you dogs to pee in your house you
can teach your dog to scrach on the door to go
out
Well I watched yet another episode of Jon and controlling Kate tonite. They brought the pups to their old house while they cleaned and I noticed not one of them ever even bothered with them. I guess the novelty has worn off. They took them out of the van put them in a kennel type thing and when they left they picked them up and put them back in the van. Oh and did ya all notice not one family member or friend was there to help them clean up. Oh Kate you’ve done such a great job turning your family against you and Jon. I sure hope your kids don’t wonder why they don’t have any relatives anymore. I bet you blame them(relatives) for all the fighting. Money sure makes some people do mean things eh Kate? One day Jon will be sitting in front of his laptop with nothing better to do than read some posts about his family, will he be shocked when he sees what the veiwing public think of his lovely wife. All I can say is ” Jon, you should have run as fast and as far away as you could when you first met Kate the “controller.”
Carly & Hannah, I totally agree with you!
We own two GSD’s and they do require a lot of training…no, better yet, Kate needs training.
Those kids have no idea at their age what responsibility is for owning a pet….our 3 children are respectful of our pets- but our dogs are not their responsibility! They help, play with them, love them, make sure the water bowl is filled…well, you get the picture. I could go on and on. My fear is that those two wonderful dogs will be treated unfairly due to lack of knowledge. Any dog…but my love of the GSD is absolute! Yes, the shedding…LOL, my vacuum is attached to my hip most days. If anyone knows a GSD, they are wonderful dogs….protective, loyal, loving. Our female has a built in baby sitting instinct. They crave human affection- and most times will bond with one main family member. Kate seems to be all over the map with her emotions. One moment the puppies are cute, the next she is screaming because they pee’s on her carpet- welcome to the parenthood of dogs Kate! Just like our “human” kids….our pets have accidents too!
Someone…offer to train Kate!
Wow! I am shocked at all the negative response. If these people have such strong feels about what jon and kate do then why dont they turn off the tv. I think jon and kate can handle it. I dont know how you people can form an opinion from the half an hour episode everyones sees once a week i think there is more to their life then that! You are doing great jon and Kate!
I totally agree with you shauna… peoples just shouldnt watch their show if they dont like it….
Shauna, and Diane, you’re both right too. I have vowed not to watch another episode because it’s just so upsetting to see those dogs caged up and to know how damaging it is for any dog to be locked away and ignored. The last straw for me was when Kate–the ultimate hostess–spread out the blanket for a back yard picnic, laid out the food, then up charged the pups who began devouring the fare. She screamed for Jon to ‘crate them’ for after all, ‘reasoned’ Kate, ‘an hour won’t kill them. . ..’ But I do have to give credit to Jon who explained to her, and I will paraphrase: “what do you expect?” “They can’t tell the difference when food is placed on the ground.”
These puppies were a horrible choice. She is a neat freak! The majority of dogs SHED. Bishon Frise do not shed much and are small and would maybe be a better choice…she should have done her research, that is what a responsible pet owner would do! These pups just sit there and keep each other company! They are left in that stupid little ‘cage’ alone.
I saw a preview for next week. One of the dogs eats a toy and the vet finds it in the puppies’ stomach! All because of improper training….I don’t think they will keep these puppies long…..
When you buy a dog and you plan to get a puppy, the first thing you do before bringing it home is PUPPY PROOF your house. The reason the dogs are eating toys is because Kate never puppy proofed her mansion. I guess she thinks dogs know not to eat things that aren’t good for them, DUH KATE!!!!!
Oh and Shauna, if you don’t like what people post here, turn off your computer and stay away from the message board. If you think Kate is doing a great job, maybe you should be her BBF. LOL
It might be good to email kate the info about the german shepards. It looks like on the show that they are asking for help. Maybe someone needs to let her know nicely about this. I think the email is letters@sixgosselins.com On the six gosselins site they mention that they don’t read other websites about there show because of the many mean things people say. I don’t own a dog but am also concerned about the little doggies health and the need for training as mentioned above. Someone that knows please email them. Thanks,
Sarah
Seriously??! Two dogs?! Dogs that shed..puppies…considering the “issues” Kate has with cleanliness it is shocking that she would pick german shepherd puppies. Why didn’t she pick a non-shedding breed (there are many)? a medium-sized breed? Why not rescue dogs instead of puppies? I’m assuming someone said “hey do you want a couple of german shepherds for free?” and she said sure! they can protect our acreage! I have a feeling that once the dogs are fully grown she’ll make them “outdoor” dogs. I pray they train those poor puppies properly. German Shepherds are such smart dogs, I would hate to see their potential wasted on someone not interested in training them properly. Maybe they’ll do a cross-over episode next season with the Dog Whisperer.
Should have got poodles. Shephards are nice
dogs but too much hair.
Just how long do you think those dogs will last? The very first day they had them Kate already threatened to return the,.
My heart aches for the dogs. And yes, if she had wanted to set a good example she’d have gotten rescue dogs.
That is a good point hannah. I should turn off my computer i am just in aww of how concerned you guys are over something that has nothing to do with your lives. And nobody can honestly say that they keep the dogs in the gated area the whole time cause again it is a half an hour show the show is not about the dogs its about jon and kate plus 8 and if you are so concerened about the dogs not getting enough attention if any of you complaining on here has dogs obvioulsly you arent paying attention to your dogs as you complain on the internet. They are dogs people yes they need to be taken care of and played with they are just like a taking care of a baby then again they are dogs.
petunia if you watch the entire episode it should her writing a check for the dogs and she explained how she found the breeder and so what if she makes them outdoor dogs most dogs are meant to be outside good gosh people there dogs!!!!!!! !
Dogs are not meant to be left outside because they’re dogs. They have been domesticated and they are meant to be with humans because they love us. If some-one gets a dog or dogs just to stick them outside and pay them no attention, then they may as well have bought a plant ( outside one) I have seen some real horror stories with outside dogs and those people had no idea how to care for animals. Nobody ever should buy a dog and stick it in the back yard and use it for an alarm system thinking it barks when someone comes around.I’m sure Jon & Kate’s dogs will be left outside because she got them for all the wrong reasons. They don’t plan to walk them, train them or do much of anything else with them so we might as well stop worring about them and go back to watching Jon & Kate plus 8
and we’ll just ignore the fact that they have dogs.
I love the show!! Biggest fan!! I’m just concernned about the kids. She has 8 for pete sakes!! Just toleratedeach other at least for the kids. Omg. Two dogs !! I hope Maddy doesn’t really have to wash that dog. Kate you got them you should wash them. Really?? You should know better. Really Maddy washing the dog?? I love the show but sometimes it makes me wonder how she became an Rn. I’m trying to be an Rn. The things she says and does. C’mon. Call Ceaser Milan to the rescue!! Lighten up Kate. You have a gorgeous help and a chef and a housekeeper. Do u really need to be so hard on John. Just think of the kids. You should not keep the dogs. Or at least get a smaller one that the kids can handle. May God Bless you and your family. And the dogs. John– keep your head up!!! Think of the kids.
I meant to say gorgeous house!! Typo… I have a Rottweiller , my 8 yr old wouldn’t be able to handle him. He’s 3 months. She washes the chi and Yorkie. Those are her dogs. Maybe you should get those types of dogs. Since you didn’t let the kids name them. And, you named them , you really should take care of them. We still love your show. Hope everything works out!! We’ll pray for you and the kids andjohn and the dogs!!
I hope kate is reading these letters. I’ll even give you my Yorkie. My 8 yr old said it was ok. She even knows those dogs are too big for the liitle ones.. My Yorkie is a purebred. He’s brown coffee color. My 8 yr old loves the show too!!
Jon & Kate never read these posts. They have someone who goes through the e-mails and deletes every negative one so they only see positve ones. Kate will never know the things we say about them. She even said this on an earlier show when they were answering veiwer questions. So folks we’re wasting our time trashing the gosslings.
I 4 1 LOVE their show. I just turned 10 TODAY and still loving the show. I think it was right for them to get 2 german shepards. 4 1, they grow up 2 be a pretty big size dog and that will fit their family nicely, because they r so little. Imagian a almost 5 year old coming to hug or pet a german shepard they could or might hurt it. And secondly, a dog teaches RESPONSIBILITY!! Those kid need responsibility. ALL kids need responibility. I may not know all the important things but i know they do the best they can. LOVe THE SHOW!!!
I just watched the vet show and those dogs have NO training, at all. I watched one of the dogs jump up on colin and mouth him. I’m telling you people I know this breed, it is going to be a nightmare if the two adults don’t get off their asses and TRAIN these dogs. They HAVE to know their place in this family. Right now they see the kids as their equals and that is BAD. If you don’t believe me just watch the show until one day the dogs are gone because they are too out of control. Oh and that won’t be Jon and Kates fualt, ya right. These people are totall morons. The kids need responsibility but not at 4 with unruly dogs, they will be hurt.
I just saw this repeat episode for the first time last might. OH my GOODNESS. The FOUR Years olds are cleaning up after the puppies. How completely disgusting and unsanitary. She actually put the spray on the pee and then put a paper towel on it and squeezed down on it with her hands. WHAT MOTHER would allow her child of this age to do that, it’s disgusting!!!
WHY DID KATE GET THESE POOR DOGS. SHE
SAID FROM THE BEGINNING THAT THEY WOULD
NEVER GET ANY PETS. LOOK WHAT THEY DID
TO THE HERMIT CRAB!!!!! PLEASE SOMEONE HAS
TO INTERVENE AND SAVE THESE POOR DOGS!
IT GETS VERY COLD IN PA!!
I said when they first got the dogs that Kate would turn them into outside dogs because she would get tired of them. These poor dogs haven’t been house trained yet, I guess only her kids get the full meal deal. Those dogs didn’t ask to be raised by these morons. They would make wonderful loving friends to a family, it could have been this one but they chose to quit on them. All animals deserve a loving home, not 24 acres of space to run and never know what a pat or a tummy rub feels like. Kate, you’ve lost alot of respect from your viewers because of your lazy attitude towards your dogs.
How can Jon and/or Kate train the puppies?
That requires working with them, if only a few minutes , a day. But Kate’s too busy yelling at Jon and fussing about the kids being dirty or spilling things. Yes, she is busy with a houseful of children.
- too busy to have dogs –
They have no business getting puppies and keeping them in a pen all day. The best thing that can happen to those puppies is for Kate to get tired of them and take them back. Hard, for a while on some of the kids, but the best way the pups will find loving homes!
I would have personally waited until ALL the younger children were between 6-8 years old. Puppies, ESPECIALLY German Shepherd puppies are HARD work–TWO puppies to boot, are they BRAIN-DEAD?!!! The sad thing is, that by the time they “get tired” of the puppies, they will probably be about 6-8 months or more old with a head FULL of issues! MEANING they will most likely have to be started from scratch with RULES, BOUNDARIES and LIMITATIONS to get them back on track for anyone to WANT to give them a NEW home!
1)Puppies aren’t a tool to use as leverage to get children to comply–!!!
2)Puppies DO teach responsibility, but ONLY if the parent takes the FULL brunt of the CHORES involved, THEN askes a child to help every now and again! It’s ALWAYS the parent’s JOB, NOT the child’s, that’s just asking WAY TOO much, and setting yourself up for disappointment when a child FORGETS or cannot successfully handle the pet when JON AND KATE AS THE PARENT’S ARE 1000% RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CARE OF THE PUPPIES!!!
I don’t watch the show, and the couple snippets I have seen I wasn’t all that impressed, so I don’t watch it. I happened to be watching a completely DIFFERENT TLC show when I saw the preview of the “2 Puppies” episode and was absolutely ANGRY! THIS is the reason children get bit by dogs they “grow up with”!!! You know what they say about those who ASS-U-ME…Jon and Kate will ASSUME that because the children and puppies grew up together, that the dogs will RESPECT the children (that’s a TAUGHT TRAIT, not a genetice pre-curser to a breed!)—you couldn’t be FURTHER from the TRUTH!!! When it’s NOT cute behavior anymore they will:
1) GET RID of the adholescent head case puppies
2) Hire trainers who may tell them “it’s hopeless” UNLESS it’s Cesar Milan
3) Take them back to the breeder-who then has to UNDO MONTHS of NO training!
4) BANISH the dogs outside where they will only continue to DEVOLVE into feral animals capable of attacking a child they see as a mere pup/equal or WORSE as a fleeing/screaming/temper tantrum throwing/squealing prey item–TWO German Shepherds that have bonded to eachother will SNAP into HUNTER mode and HUNT as a PACK if the nipping, biting, barking, tackling, herding and rough-housing of children isn’t STOPPED IMEDIATELY!!!
5) Worst case scenario a child or two+ is injured/mauled/killed by thier own family “pets” and the dogs will be euthanized and charges possibly filed against Jon and Kate for negligence—
It’s NOT too late to prevent this, but it takes W-O-R-K to create a GREAT German Shepherd Dog, NOT negligent assumptions! The puppies may have the most PERFECT genetics on the planet, but they don’t come home with a genetically encoded 100+ word command vocabulary!!! ALL the love in the world won’t stop a breed with serious potential to cause DAMAGE from doing so, EVEN accidentally or in a spur-of-the-moment freak accident! THEN it’s the BREED as a WHOLE that walks away with a bum-reputaion–instead of the finger pointing at the STUPIDITY of two ADULTS who have little to NO experience with the breed or ANY dog for that matter who seriously FUBARED the JOB of successfully raising tow puppies to be respectful.
I’m positive that 80-90% of the show is edited out for the “juicy” aspects that make reality TV so popular, so I know I may not have the FULL story if I was to watch the show, but it’s those kids, puppies and the WHOLE German Shepherd breed that will suffer if this publicity STUNT goes horribly AWRY! I’m sure the puppy thing was to possibly boost ratings, but what do I know–I am just an outside looking in, and growing ever more concerned because I OWN 2 German Shepherds, and MY dogs face Anti-Breed legislation because of total NIT-WITS like these two!!!
OMG i emailed them my lengthy opinion on their new puppies. I run a not for profit canine rescue shelter in NYS…….. What Were They thinking!!!!!!
please everyone… hope that these dogs are given toa GOOD home B 4 it is too late…….
Good for you, I DO hope they listened and/or even got to read it…it’s sad you could have been edited out of the e-mail pile for being too “harsh” or “criticizing” but SOMEONE has to SAY something… but will they LISTEN is the TRUE question! From just what I have read here, Kate is a force with her own pre-concieved and controlling issues, so puppies may only push her further beyond that “control” aspect later on, and the puppies will be GONE– the children will be trumatized (IF nothing BAD happens first) and those poor dogs will be starting at ground ZERO again, when the PROPER measures could have been taken to make it work out better!
I feel pets teach us a GREAT many things about patience, diligence, responsibility and how to look at things as an eternal optimist–but you have to go into puppy or dog ownership with YOUR EYES OPEN to learn those lessons! I’m afraid Kate doesn’t sound too open to those child-like lessons a dog can bring–but what would I know about that stuff, I have 13 dogs myself! *rolls eyes*
love your comments and advice Palewolf. Perhaps you, since you seem to know the canine species very well, answer this question: Why would an ethical breeder sell to a family so utterly unprepared to own any kind of animal? This befuddles me–baffles me–bothers me.
The breeders of my beloved bassets would have never done such a thing.
Sorry it took so long to reply…haven’t been here in a WHILE…a responsible breeder MIGHT take a chance on such a situation, but me personally…I would ONLY sell ONE puppy, NEVER two to such a situation. I am willing to give people a chance, BUT they would have to prove they are capable of the committment involved–as in frequent visits to the kennel to assist in training (and learning) a thing or two from the ADULT version of what their puppy would turn into.
As evidenced by the fall out of the marriage, those poor puppies have probably been split up and thrown out…Jon might be interested in one, but Kate would probably prefer to drown them both for being dogs!
I think its a wonderful idea.Dogs, especially puppies, are a big responsibility but theirs 8 kids and 2 adults even more with the camera crew to look after the little darlings.I think their brave people and i respect them to the fullest. Kate is a wonderful mom, tho Jon could be a little better of a parent. He cuts a thin line. Maybe with a couple of animals he feel more inclined to be home more often. Animals are big stress reducers and the don’t nag. So i think it was a wonderful decision on their behalf and i hope the pups like their new mommies and daddies.~good luck~
The last thing they needed was a dog, let alone two! I just am waiting to see the show where they have gotten rid of the dogs. Absolutely irresponsible! Animal lovers everywhere should be upset. This is why shelters across the country are filled with dogs. Owners buy them, and then realize how much work they are and give them up. Disgusting!
After only watching because of the OCC episode..she should never be allowed to own a dog….her comment on putting them in a cage where they belong…As a Shepherd owner for 15 years, I was outraged…such beautiful dogs. Mine was execellent with children. People like this should not be able to own pets…
