Open Topic Friday

March 7, 2008 by Eliza Ferree

I wanted to try something a little different, I’ve seen this done several times on Char’s CasualKeystrokes site and seemed to have some success. So today and every Friday I’ll post an “Open Topic” and I want ya’ll to voice your frustrations, needs, questions, etc. Let everyone know what you have to say.

Today I’d like to know what your biggest “mommy” fear is? Or tell me what type of topics you’d like to see on Babylune. Start posting!

    Okay I”ll start everyone off.

    - I’m afraid of my baby getting hurt.
    - I’m afraid of doing something wrong.
    - I want to be the best mom.
    - I’m afraid of them getting older and asking those sex questions.

    Your turn, I promise I don’t bite.

Because my guys were preemies – I was always afraid they’d stop breathing.

I had one that had high fevers that caused seizures and that terrified me.

Now with the teens, I’ve got one that battles depression and because it’s something we deal with now, I really don’t even want to give my fears more power by even giving them a name.

Future – with them turning 15 soon, I am so afraid of them getting their license.

I honestly believe if I lost one of my children, I would die. I dont’ think I would have the will to go on.

I never knew what love was until i knew a mother’s love.

With my children, the biggest fear I have is that of failing them. Whether that’s in the form of not ensuring they have the right skills to go after their dreams when they’re old enough, or by not being vigilent enough and them getting hurt (or worse!), the same concern is there – it’s a mom’s job not to fail her offspring. Yup, I realize it’s unrealistic to the extremes I take this fear in my mind, but there it is.

  4. Eliza says:

I hear you there Gayla, that loss would be too much.

Anyone ever have a bad fever? Or an ER trip since we are on the topic? My little girls was three at the time, she was on a bed and leaned back to far and fell off. She hit her head on the corner of the dresser. I’ll never forget the sound of her head cracking and then not knowing if she’d come home when hubby rushed her to the hospital.

Katie-Anne- thank you for commenting. I know what you mean about failing them, I’m always worried about that. I don’t see what “good” mom wouldn’t worry about that. :)

  5. Michelle says:

When my kids were little, I had fears about their breathing, I would check them constantly, I still do this each night. As they got older I had different fears.

For example I had this weird fear that Bay would get Leukemia after I read an article about a high rate of Leukemia cases in my area. And I would be terrified all Winter that Max was going to get sick enough to die – he used to get so sick and I’d have to suction him with a machine so that he could breath.

The fears that I have about Sarah are more related to her losing her spark. She is a very unique kid with some ideas that other kids just don’t get and they tell her she’s weird. It breaks her heart. I try to encourage her to just BE SARAH. She’s very good at it.

Bailey will be driving soon and that terrifies me, but it actually scares me less than thinking about her riding with other kids.

  6. Pickel says:

    Depression is hard Gayla…

  7. pretty much all of those above me. Worrying about everything, and then dealing with depression and trying to find the line between REAL fear and exaggerated.

  8. Maria says:

I worry about making the right choices for my son. I also worry constantly about chemicals, bioaccumulation, and their presence in our lives. Add to that whether the vaccination schedule is ok, his diet is balanced…all of the every day ’stuff.’

What are you think about the Oscar 2009? Why this is stupid indian movie won to various nominations!??? I’m dissapointed!
I think Benjamin Button was the best!
    What you think?

  14. Nikos-winter says:

This movie has won 8 Oscars , does it really deserve that, one thing is for sure if it was released in India it would have probably flop.

I think it’s a nice movie, small budget comparing to other Hollywood movies, nice songs .. What are your view, does it really deserve 8 Oscars or nothing at all ?
