Our Values

Our family life is based in three countries. Our hearts are not always where our jobs are, but our friends and family are in our hearts always. We don’t spread out our affection and respect based on geography, economics or even blood ties. One of the things I hope our children are learning from their experience, is to value diversity and variety of culture, of lifestyle and of ethnic identities.
I think about this all the time now that I have my own identity issues surrounding motherhood, marriage, work and my place in societies I hope will progress in terms of creating equality for all people. Often, I don’t feel like my values are shared in modern times, with a few exceptions. Another exception is Guy Kawakaski’s post about hearing Majora Carter speak at the TED conference. While Guy would like to see his daughter grow up to be an activist for equality, like Majora, I would like to see more mothers become activists for equality.
Shared and unique experiences must be articulated for a broader audience. Too much time, energy and intelligence is being wasted because the broader business and political community does not recognise the experiences of so many people. And the entire planet is suffering as a result. Isn’t it the place of mothers to speak out against this terrible, harmful nonsense?
