Parenting Blogs & Reader Traffic

The Group Writing Project, as defined by Problogger, is another opportunity to increase participation in and traffic to a given blog.

Since blogs with a parenting focus are so numerous, even those with a niche focus find it difficult to find an audience. There are a lot of tools available and I have tried a few. Hosting and participating in blog carnivals has helped, running contests and charity campaigns have also helped.

Which strategy has been most successful for Babylune?

Of all the traffic-building strategies I have tried, only the Christmas Charity Campaign has been more successful than hosting The Mistakes Made and Lessons Learned GWP in terms of bringing traffic to the blog. The Monday to Friday that the project ran, brought a 38% increase in page views over the Monday to Friday of the previous week.

Mysteriously, even though link exchanges were rampant throughout the week, my Technorati Rank, fell by about 2000 places over the same period.

Congratulations on a successful group writing project! I was a day too late to submit. Poo.

In any case, Technorati ranks rely not just on inbound links but also number of blogs indexed so if total amount of blogs indexed increases and some blogs gain more inbound links and end up having a higher total than you, then your rank would drop. Does that make sense?

Hsien- Once I switched on my memory-bank experience of my student job days as a library assistant, I understood your explanation perfectly.
