Restaurant Fined: Fired Breastfeeding Mom

An LA Restaurant was recently fined for firing an employee that breastfed her baby during her

breaks. As you can imagine this did not go over very well with the community of breastfeeding moms or the legal department.

Jesus Acosta, the owner of Acosta Tacos, has been fined $46,000 for firing Marina Chavez. She sued him for emotional suffering and lost pay. Keep in mind the only thing that she got fired for was actually feeding her baby during her breaks. I could understand if this was done while working but not on a break.

This isn’t the only problem with Jesus though, apparently when Marina got pregnant she continued to work, she had been working for the company for three years before this. But when her baby came prematurely and she had to take off to care for it for four weeks she’d been replaced. Not just replaced though, but fired. They did ask her to work two night shifts for an employee that was absent, she did it. But when the boss heard she was breastfeeding her baby during her breaks, she was fired. By the way she didn’t breastfeed the baby in the restaurant but inside her car, outside.

Do you think the fine fit the crime? I think the way he fired her was too harsh and he should’ve allowed her to do whatever she needed to do on her breaks, especially since she was actually covering for an employee.
