Safe Haven Laws Revisited

I’m sorry but due to all the news on abandoned and found newborn babies I thought this was a topic that needed to be spoke of once again. Many states in the US have a Safe Haven Laws, please check to see if your state 1111673_little_baby_hands_with_mom_and_dads_hands_3does if you do not want or cannot have your newborn baby. It is not safe to leave them abandoned on the side of the road, in a trash bag or anywhere else where it may not be seen. Don’t just knock on someone’s door and leave the baby on a porch. Remember some people will take a step to check, they do not want to feel a baby under their foot or a scream.

Here are safe haven laws for the states recently in the news:

Ohio (baby found in grassy area)

A newborn can be left anonymously at a police station, fire station or hospital up to 30 days after birth. (without prosecution) Make sure to leave the baby with an actual person, not just at the door.

Florida (baby girl in box)

A newborn up to 3 days old or younger may be left at a hospital, fire station or emt station.

Illinois

A newborn baby 72 hours or younger may be left by a parent at a hospital, EMT or fire station.

Missouri

A newborn up to 30 days old or younger may be left by a biological parent or a person acting on behalf of the parent with a staff member of a hospital, EMT or firefighter.
