Stand Up Straight!

Posture has never been my strong point. I have mild scoliosis and have always had extremely strong legs to compensate for the weaknesses in my back.
Post partum, my posture is even worse. According to a conversation on the Berkeley Parents’ Network, I am not alone. Members of the group recommend yoga, pilates, and just standing up against the wall to remind your body what straight actually feels like.
I consider yoga one of the great pleasures of life and wish I could remember to integrate it into my life more often (BTW, anyone else find they are more forgetful while breast feeding?).
The Yoga Journal site has a great, almost poetic article on Yoga for New Moms by Yoko Yoshikawa that describes how to go about recovery from child birth using yoga when you can, where you can.
In Toronto, I studied Hatha Yoga with the Sivananda Yoga Centre for a number of years. The organization has a number of nonprofit centres around the world that offer a series of inexpensive courses and classes every day.
I started yoga at a very difficult time in my life and it has always helped me recover from my depressive funks and mild physical discomforts. I think I’ll go do a few Sun Salutations now before the baby wakes up.

I don’t know if I’m more forgetful while breastfeeding, but the other day I did something I’d like to attribute to that. I had just dialed my friend when my cell phone rang. I went to answer the cell phone and it stopped ringing. I dialed my friend again and the person called my cell again. It took THREE TIMES before I realized I was calling myself – dialing my own cell phone number instead of my friend’s phone number.
Hahahaha
Time for a posture-correcting top!
