Gayla at SuperNanny Rules and Linette at Mother Earth’s Garden wrote about being part of a pack for the Generous December Group Writing Project. In part 3, Linette told us about meeting one of her best friends through Buckeye Border Collie Rescue. In part 1, Gayla told us about meeting three of her best friends via 1-800-Save-a-Pet.

Both of you reminded me of my sister Sarah.

My sister’s heart is so big that it can encompass not only her husband, children, and in-laws, but our mother, brother, large extended family, me and my husband and kids, and lots of furry friends. Like Gayla, she has three dogs. Sarah makes quite a sight at walk time when she has to hold three leashes while pushing her youngest in a stroller and keeping both eyes on her pre-schooler.

Once, my sister and her husband took in a fourth dog temporarily to find him a home. When they dropped him off at his new luxurious home with a television producer’s family, my sister cried because she couldn’t provide for him herself. She was heavily pregnant at the time, but her sense of responsibility toward all creatures is highly-developed.

Both Gayla and Linette’s posts made for inspiring gift ideas for my sister, but I could not decide which charity to support. So, I took a paws for thought and asked myself, “What would Sarah do?”

Quite obviously, my sister would not support one charity any more than she would adopt just one dog. So, I sent $10 to each.
