I remember the “Soldiers’ Angels” as being the volunteers that made the beautiful hand-crocheted blankets that my children have all slept in. They also packaed little bags with a few sleepers, baby sheets and other baby assortments to help out. The group is still doing that but now they’ve extended it a bit further, the fathers that are deployed overseas now get bubblegum cigars that are either pink or blue and say, “It’s a boy” or “It’s a Girl!” Isn’t that sweet?

Here’s the info on the Baby Shower:

The shower will be held on October 10 at the Nevada National Guard Armory in Las Vegas, 6400 Range Road, from 1 p.m. to 3 pm. The press is welcome to attend, and no permission from Public Affairs is needed.

Soldiers’ Angels is a volunteer-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing aid and comfort to America’s military men and women, as well as veterans and military families. For more information, see www.soldiersangels.org or contact Jody Shervanick of Soldiers’ Angels (702-862-6064), Top Knot Vice President Caren Vink (cvink@soldiersangels.org), or Yvette Weigold of Clark County Armory (702-632-0513).

I hope these ladies/men get the recognition they deserve and their baby shower goes off without a hitch.

What happened at the baby shower? There was a business showcase, a parade of babies and of course giveaways. Yep those that came were actually able to win some very nice gifts. The Stroller Nanny was one of the companies that donated a prize, the prize of course was a stroller. The stroller actually has a dvd player, talk about walking in style. There were also classes on prenatal massage, post-partum depression and car seat safety.

What a wonderful idea, I hope they had a smashing success.

Trisha

So instead of looking this up I’ve decided to let ya’ll have some fun and list some family traditions you’ve included in your baby showers. If you know of any games specially geared towards your own ethnic group include those as well. You never know who’ll come across this and they too might be looking for games like this.

For myself the games I listed are the ones we have always played, but something else we include is if the mom-to-be already has a child we make sure she/he will be present and give them a couple gifts as well. We also make little hats out of all the gift wrap, kind of like we do at bridal showers and have the mom wear it. A baby shower is normally done right before the mom-to-be is about to give birth or if missed it is done a week or two after the baby is born.

What traditions do you have for baby showers?

Baby book showers have become the trendy baby shower these days. Why? Probably because no one seems to duplicate the same thing and it stocks up on the baby’s book collection.

Why? Probably because no one seems to duplicate the same thing and it stocks up on the baby’s book collection.

Many times I’ve been to a baby shower, or had one for the matter and received multiple items of the same outfit, diaper genie or something else. While it is great to have a baby shower, if you already have a child chances are you have a lot of the items you’d get at one. Instead, have a book shower and check out all the neat books that’ll come inside your home. Some will be books you’ve never seen while others will be old favorites you’d forgot about. The best part is you’ll have memories to last a lifetime with your new baby, all you have to do is open a book.

Some ideas for your own baby book shower:

Decorations can be anything from straight color, character, or if you have time cut out tiny book shaped items and make a chain with them. Maybe everyone that shows up can write a favorite book of theirs on one or five of the books (chains). This would give the mom some new book ideas the next time she goes shopping.

Cake- The shape of a book, closed or open. Or maybe a character from one of your favorite nursery rhymes.

Games- You can do guess the character, the alphabet game, read a page, share a memory, or any other baby shower games.

Thank You Gift- Take a picture of the baby with the book, whether you are reading to him/her or he/she has the book propped up beside him/her. Everyone loves new pictures of a baby, this shows you are using the book.

As you can see there are many ideas you can do when it comes to having a book shower and if you are the mom there are tons of books that can show up on your dining room table. Still not sure what type of book to get? There are tons of books for a baby: Touch and Feel, board books, pop up books, read to me book, chapter books, books for mom, etc.
