It is not safe to leave them abandoned on the side of the road, in a trash bag or anywhere else where it may not be seen. Don&#8217;t just knock on someone&#8217;s door and leave the baby on a porch. Remember some people will take a step to check, they do not want to feel a baby under their foot or a scream. </p>
<p>Here are safe haven laws for the states recently in the news:</p>
<p><a href="http://jfs.ohio.gov/safehavens/">Ohio</a> (baby found in grassy area)</p>
<p>A newborn can be left anonymously at a police station, fire station or hospital up to 30 days after birth. (without prosecution) Make sure to leave the baby with an actual person, not just at the door.</p>
<p><a href="http://library.adoption.com/articles/infant-safe-haven-laws-florida.html">Florida</a> (baby girl in box)</p>
<p>A newborn up to 3 days old or younger may be left at a hospital, fire station or emt station. </p>
<p><a href="http://library.adoption.com/articles/infant-safe-haven-laws-illinois.html">Illinois</a> </p>
<p>A newborn baby 72 hours or younger may be left by a parent at a hospital, EMT or fire station. </p>
<p><a href="http://library.adoption.com/articles/infant-safe-haven-laws-missouri.html">Missouri</a></p>
<p>A newborn up to 30 days old or younger may be left by a biological parent or a person acting on behalf of the parent with a staff member of a hospital, EMT or firefighter.</p>
