Jennifer and Tracee are both fellow bloggers. Both of them entered the Generous December Group Writing Project, both of them comment here on a regular basis, and both of them have let me know that they are in my corner all the time.

They have one more thing in common.

In her entry, Tracee asked her readers to consider volunteering as mentors to girls. Jennifer told us how important mentoring was to her during her “interesting” childhood.

Friends, I want to show you the support you have shown me over the time we’ve shared blogging. I couldn’t donate to both of the causes you each designated, so I found a compromise. I gave $15 to Big Brothers Big Sisters International. I thought it was the best way to send my appreciation of you both as far as possible.

Every week, I have a new favorite blog. Yes, my preferences change with the weather. So, I thought I would start a new feature naming my favorites and asking the blogger to write a post solving one of my parenting problems.This week my favorite blog is Tree Hugging Family written by Jennifer Chait.

Jennifer, I need some parenting advice from you. One of my kids has developed a fear of the woods. Not all woods. He likes the forest surrounding our village in Bulgaria, he likes hiking in the provincial park near my mother’s house in Canada, he just hates the one near where we live. He thinks there are monsters living there when, in fact, there are only a few wild boar and deer.

How can we help him get over it?
