<p>In my experience, there are a multitude of ways to define motherhood, whether individual mothers are created through <a href="http://www.blisstree.com/babylune/all-the-usual-postpartum-stuff/">biology</a> or <a href="http://www.blisstree.com/babylune/what-adoption-usually-looks-like/">adoption</a>. These ten definitions don&#8217;t apply to everyone, but four out of ten is probably about average.<span id="more-855"></span></p>
<p>10. Motherhood often a contradictory emotional state. Blame it when you feel both guilty and more loving <a href="http://www.blisstree.com/babylune/warning-mushy/">when disguised as a non-mother</a>.</p>
<p>9. Motherhood is an individual and variable profession. Its practitioners often feel the need to<a href="http://www.blisstree.com/babylune/an-open-letter-to-my-neighborhood/"> explain their methods and outcomes</a>.</p>
<p>8. Motherhood is a nurturing act <a href="http://www.blisstree.com/babylune/expensive-breast-milk/">performed by female mammals</a>.</p>
<p>7. Motherhood is, for better or worse, <a href="http://www.blisstree.com/babylune/our-values/">political</a>.</p>
<p>6. The act of motherhood is often the spiritual center of a woman&#8217;s being.</p>
<p>5. Motherhood is <a href="http://www.blisstree.com/babylune/controversial-conversation-selling-vitamins-saving-women-from-ppd/">a complicated state to embrace</a>. It is not easily undertaken.</p>
<p>4. Motherhood is <a href="http://www.blisstree.com/babylune/but-imagine-their-childcare-dilemma/">becoming more accessible</a> to more women.</p>
<p>3. Motherhood often means, in the public sphere, that a woman <a href="http://www.blisstree.com/babylune/the-woolen-tights-police/">can never be right about anything</a>.</p>
<p>2. Motherhood means that <a href="http://www.blisstree.com/babylune/its-official-parents-have-less-sex/">daddy doesn&#8217;t come first</a> in mommy&#8217;s life any more.</p>
<p>1. <a href="http://www.blisstree.com/babylune/support-love-make-for-better-births/" target="_blank">Motherhood is love</a>.</p>
