Terrible Twos: Myth or Truth?

I’ve heard many people claim their child was living in the “terrible twos,” for many years I wondered exactly what they were talking about. Was there such a thing as “terrible twos”? as it as bad as people made it sound? I would constantly wonder what type of parent would say such horrible things about their own children.
The truth is, terrible twos can happen and normally they show up write around 22 months of age, which is just shy of turning two. So why do they call them terrible two if it actually happens at one? Because it happens just before two and …read more

Lifestyles Channel here at b5media is doing a Lifestyles Prmo Day theme today. I’m new to this blog and wasn’t exactly sure what was going on, but decided to jump in anyways. The basic idea is to write a post about 4 years in the past, the present and four years to the future. You may ask how that deals with Babylune, the answer is simple, I have four kids and can tie it right back to babyhood. How’s that? I’ll explain at the bottom of this post.

Some of you may be wondering exactly who Kate Gosselin is and why I’d tell ya what’s in her bag. Am I right? To be honest I’d only heard of the name once before this past week and it wasn’t on tv. In fact, while I was pregnant with my fourth child the doctors made me think I was pregnant with more than one so I began looking up other moms that had been pregnant with multiples. That’s when I found the Gosselin’s, they had two sets of multiples. Oh it wasn’t two sets of twins either, they first had …read more

“We’ve been through some terrible times, my love, but we’re coming out of the tunnel. Don’t you think?”
“Maybe.”
“Of course we are. And we have our lovely children, don’t we?”
“Yes, said Cressida dully, then, feeling guilty, “yes, of course, and they are beautiful and the best thing…”
“Precisely.” Harry picked up his diagram and threw it in the bin. “And let’s not worry about this stuff so much, hey? What can we do about it anyway.”
“Nothing.”
“That’s right. So let’s do nothing. It will be – – refreshing.”

Today we’ve got two posts up at two carivals. It’s carnival craze day. Which is good because it’s also coughing craze day. I went out in my role as a journalist to cover a literacy event here in Frankfurt where a real princess spoke. To my great dismay, I had a coughing fit in the middle of her speech!
I am now comforting myself with other people’s parenting techniques and menu selections via Manic Monday at Silicon Valley Moms and the Carnival of Family Life at Play Library.
I will be reading until I live down the betrayal of my easily-irritated throat.
The Post Partum Father

I have indeed started the research into why fathers are so involved after the birth of their first child, and not so involved with the second. And, you know, there are a lot of stories from women to catalogue the phenomenon and prove it exists, there are a lot of personal essays written by fathers that go against type, but I haven’t found any scientific data or psychological theories….yet. I plan to keep working on this and update you with any discoveries.
Until then, I am going to just cool my heels, read the bibliography dispassionately and see if my own …read more
