So I’ve decided to tell you a little about his day and some other experiences we’ve had that showed he was ready, feel free to leave your stories here and your advice.

IMG: Ferree

Earlier today I was uploading “Elf” into the DVD for Little A, he had grabbed a diaper and was playing with this sisters’ toys. I thought nothing of it and went about loading his movie, that is until I heard, “Mom help!”

When I looked over I see that Little A has a dirty diaper beside him (thankfully just pee) and a new one all on, except he couldn’t strap it just right as it got stuck under him. But you could see he took the initiative and all. He was so proud once I helped him he kept repeating, “I did it!” Yeah I think he’s ready.

A few months ago we went through the whole thing when he’d run to his potty and go. But that was short lived, where he once carried his potty in all the rooms he now has it in the bathroom but doesn’t really use it. What would you do?

I want to know which of you have used a reward system for your toddler and it was a success. I know many trial it and fail but I want to hear about the ones that actually worked. worked with one, we gave him Rugrat underwear and that was it. The other two, the girls, were a bit harder for some reason.

We are currently in the process of training our last, he’s 2-years-old and wants to some days and the days he doesn’t it can become a mess. The potty chair is in the living room, he has two other seats in both bathrooms (the type that go on top of the toilet seat) so he has something everywhere. He does NOT like to wear the diaper once it has been soiled and comes immediately to you. If you don’t realize it he will begin to take it off, regardless of whether there is pee or poop in it.

Talking to my husband (hubby) this weekend I decided I’d try out a little reward. The goal is to have him potty trained by October 1st. No I have no clue if this will work but with all the videos out there, potty posters, dolls, books and toys I should be able to come up with something. Plus we have all of your ideas. So feel free to post away what you gave your child as a reward when they were finally out of diapers.

I know we’ve bribed with hot wheel cars and for the girls once they were completely done it was a Barbie Doll. What did your child get as a potty training reward?

MommyMaria is talking about the word’s little people say, I must admit they can crack me up. Does your little person have any favorite words that only you understand? What are some? Don’t forget to let Maria know. Here’s a few mine likes to say: wawa= water, vegtals=veggietales, yoyobaby= yobaby yogurt, dooce=juice and my favorite peas with one hand curled under his chin= please.

The Mommy Blog is asking “Who do you think should Raise Michael Jackson’s Kids?” I’m all for his mom doing it, would hate to see them go through anything else. Course now that pictures of the children’s childhood photos are now appearing on OK Magazine I must wonder who will honor Michael’s wishes in not having the pictures everywhere.

Over at 5 Minutes for Mom, Susan admits to running a red light when her young one became ill and she had to get to the hospital. Isn’t it amazing the things you’ll do to protect your child? Yes, it is very distracting having them crying beside you in the car and not knowing what is going on. I remember the time my youngest quit breathing and my husband flew down the road and ran a red light to get him into ER. By the time he reached it he was fine, no one ended up knowing what caused it but it just shows there is nothing that will tear you away from your child when they are helpless.

Finally the Blonde Mom Blog believes the Ice Cream Man is the 5th Apocolypse and I must say I totally agree. I mean how often are you just about to eat dinner and suddenly you hear the sound of that crazy, chocolate filled truck? Or you just arrive home, thinking you can duck safely inside and realize he must have a tracker on you and pulls down the road as you open the car door? Let her know how you feel.

Have you read any funny mommy related stories lately?

Huggies Pull-Ups knows how hard it is to train those babies and they know how much money we, as parents tend to spend on diapers just to get them potty trained. So, Huggies is sponsoring Babylune with this giveaway, where two winners will get a Potty Training Success Packages. They’ve sent me my own Potty Training package, which I’ll review later this week, but lets start off by saying you get diapers, a DVD and a surprise for your little one.

Normally I have the answer to the younger ones, but they were much older and didn’t start this young. What would you do? How old were your kids when they began potty training?

6 days until Mothers’ Day and you’ll be relieved to hear I won’t be teaching my three year-old how to scramble eggs for the main breakfast in bed event. Toast is fine, I just hope I don’t get any crumbs on the baby’s head. Does every child insist on nursing the moment their mothers prepare to eat or is it just me?

I often think the only thing mothers have in common is that we’re all women with children. That’s probably why it doesn’t take long to embroil a new mother in a passionate argument. The opportunity to stake out a side and defend it ferociously governs discussions about routine male circumcision, breastfeeding, sleep training, working in or outside the home, types of childcare and potty training methods, among other parenting topics.

There are as many definitions of motherhood as there are mothers. What is missing is respect for other women’s definitions of what motherhood means. A lot of energy is being wasted by arguing about what, exactly, is the “best” for children. Energy that, if re-directed, could actually be spent making a society that is friendly to mothers and children. Claiming and defending the moral highground is an exhausting and eternal struggle.
Re-directing wasted energy is the goal of Mothers Ought to Have Equal Rights. The American organization is dedicated to fighting the media-hyped divisions between women with children. The group hopes to foster inclusion and cooperation on issues that affect our children everywhere. Visit the site to find out how to support their campaign for a “ceasefire in the mommy wars.”
