Three Sisters Toys recalls Baby Hammocks

I don’t know why but this one does not surprise me, when I first heard of these baby hammocks my first thought was “Can’t those fall over.” Apparently they can tip over or go upside down and since there are latches to keep the baby buckled he/she would stay in it and get hung. Scary thought I know.

Thankfully there have been no accidents with this hammock. For those that do have the hammock they have issued a recall on it and would like you to return the entire thing. Return the item where you got it to get a full refund, or contact Three Sisters Toys toll-free at (888) 537-9293 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s Web site at www.threesisterstoys.com. The hammocks are known as the Yayita baby hammocks.

Here’s the recall from the Cpsc:

Hazard: The hammock can flip over, posing a serious fall hazard and strangulation hazard to infants who become entrapped in the seat’s restraint straps while upside down.

Description: The recalled baby hammock is a cream-colored canvas and hangs from a wooden pole. The hammock measures about 29 x 43 inches. It has three restraint straps with red buckles and is attached to a cushioned pad for the infant. A mounting fixture, also called a fixing set, is sold with the hammock. “La Siesta” is printed on a tag located below the restraint straps. Model number YABN-1 is printed on a white tag sewn into the hammock’s side seam.

Sold by: Three Sisters Toys online at www.threesisterstoys.com from December 2007 through July 2008 for about $100.

I figured out why I never liked these, it reminded me of the bigger version and I’ve fallen out of those a number of times. I’d never put a child in if I can’t lay in one.

Aqua-Leisure Recalls Inflatable Floats

The CPSC has called a voluntary recall on over 4 million floats this past Thursday due to the child seats being able to

tear. These seats are the ones that the baby will sit in while swimming around a pool, since these are the one thing that makes sure your baby stays safe from drowning you probably want to return it.

Aqua-Leisure has recalled 14 different styles of inflatable floats that they’ve made. While you may not have to, it is voluntary and the CPSC is asking that you return them to the company. At this time there is nothing stating if you will be sent a new one or reimbursed.

Here’s what the CPSC site says:

Hazard: The leg straps in the seat of the float can tear, causing children to unexpectedly fall into or under the water, posing a risk of drowning.

Incidents/Injuries: There have been 31 reports of float seats tearing, causing children to fall into or under the water. No injuries have been reported.

Taggies Infant Garment Recall

A huge recall on infant garments, this time it is the taggie garments. These little sleepers might look cute but they have buttons that can come detached posing a choking hazard.

The July 2008 recall involved two Taggies™ Sleep ‘n Play style infant garments: the Butterfly Applique’ and the Fun Dog Print. Subsequent to the recall, two additional Taggies Sleep ‘n Play styles, manufactured before July 1, 2008, were identified as also having snap issues. The recall has now been expanded to involve the Dinosaur Applique’ and the Pink Toss Print styles. The infant garments are one piece footed coveralls with snaps down the front. These garments were sold in sizes 0-3 months, 3-6 months, and 6-9 months. RN #27829 is printed on the care label sewn into the garment. Style numbers are printed on the hangtag of the garments. Flashing Pacifier Recall

I’m not sure how many of you have bought these but they are little pacifiers that are flashing. These may look cute or help you find the baby in the dark (that is just a joke) but they are being recalled. These were NOT meant for babies. Apparently the pacifier can fall apart which poses as a choking hazard.

Hazard: The flashing pacifiers do not comply with federal safety standards for pacifiers. Although the pacifiers are marketed to older children and adults, they could be given to babies and cause serious injury or death. The pieces of the pacifier can separate, posing a choking hazard. The necklaces pose a strangulation hazard.

If you do have these, which were bought in Nov 07-Nov 08, you can get more info from Top Goods Trading just call 213 680 0388. So far, there has been no injuries.

Heinz Baby Food Recall in Hong Kong

Recall, recall, recall…. I’m afraid to check the recalls these days, with all the China tainted milk scare going on. Now I read it isn’t just the baby formula, animals at the zoos over there are getting sick too. In recent news Heinz baby food is recalling Heinz Itelligence Many Many Vegetable Cereal.

“No other Heinz products are affected and Heinz wishes to assure consumers of the safety of its products,” the company said in a statement.

The company said it had found trace levels of melamine — 1.6 milligrams per kilogram — in the batch compared with much higher levels — 2500 milligrams per kilogram — found in adulterated milk formula products in China.

Heinz’s recalled product was made in China for distribution in China only, a company spokesman said.

Recall Alert: Beco Baby Carrier

I always loved my baby carrier, used it where ever I went when I had BabyGirl. I haven’t bought one with Little A but am always looking for one that I would find like before. While checking out the recalls over at csps.com today I noticed they had a recall alert on a baby carrier, so I’ll list it below.

Type:Beco Baby Carrier Butterfly, Mia, Pony Express, Carnival, Addison, Ethan, Sophia, Cameron, Ava and Joshua.
Reason: shoulder strap releases tension which could cause it to slip and baby to fall out head first. (yeah not a nice thought)
Currently there hasn’t been any injuries, but there have been 8 reports made about the buckle unlatching.

Recall: Teething Rattles

Heart and Car Sterling Silver Teethers these are baby rattles that are made of sterling silver. 200 have been bought, but the heart and cars in the center of the rattle have been known to break off. Due to a choking hazard they are being recalled.

Rattle Recall: Infantino Rattle

About 20,000 Infantino rattles have been recalled due to a tail coming loose. If the tail comes off a baby can easily choke on it. The actual recall is for the Infantino Lamb Grabby Rattles, which is really cute but obviously very dangerous.

Recall Alert: Baby Sling

As being part of a blog that talks all about motherhood I thought it would be important to let my readers also know about recalls when I see them. So, here’s the first:

Ellaroo Baby Slings has had a recall, these were sold between 2007-Feb 2008 for about $100. If you bought one of these comfortable slings you may want to call the number listed below to get a replacement. Currently no babies have been injured but there have been four reports of the ring bending or breaking off. I don’t want to see someone’s baby falling to the ground because of a weak ring, if you bought one get the replacement.

Car Seat Recalls

The Discovery infant car seats by Evenflo has been recalled by Evenflo according to the CPSC.org. It was recently discovered that the car seat and its base could actually seperate from each other in a high impact (car crash), which would not be a good thing for your little one.

The car seats in question were sold between April 2005 until January 29, 2008. In the case that you actually have one of these seats, contact Evenflo for a dual-hook fastener.
