Teen Makes a Run for It

Moments before her mother was to abandon her at the Safe Haven Hospital, the 17-year-old girl made a run for it when she realized just where she was. Her younger brother didn’t run and was taken into custody, state officials are now on the look out for her.

I’m still confused on why someone would drop their teens off, or any child. I mean if you’ve had them for this long don’t you love them? I can only imagine the pain and torment going through the minds of these kids, knowing their family is giving up on them and no longer loves them. I know everyone states this law is a good thing, but honestly we’ve seen more parents give up on their children now that they can just drop them off. I mean you have people driving out from Arizona to drop off their kids.

I’m happy to read that the law will go in front of the board today, hopefully they’ll limit it to only those that have a child less than a year old. Currently they’ve had 32 teens dropped off since they opened their doors.

I do believe in the Safe Haven laws for those that have just given birth, but for teens, no I don’t.

The Safe Haven should be available for all kids. If it was not necessary, if there were not kids out there at risk within their families, we would not need a foster care system. Maybe the numbers are high, but what if each of those kids was “saved” because of Safe Haven?
