Going Back to Work: A Survival Guide for comeback Moms
Week two back at work has finally come to a close. I was wiped out by noon. I know I need some self-care, but I don’t even know where to begin.

I served broccoli and peeled apple slices for dinner. Partly because I just don’t have it in me to cook anything else, partly because we had cake at IKEA, and partly because I just read scimmed the first paragraphs of this USA Today article with the headline Parents Faulted for Obesity even though I am pretty sure we can blame the modern workplace, its excruciatingly long hours, lack of employee security and total lack of flexibility or respect for their worker’s family lives…but maybe that is just me.

The baby finger fed herself and got most of it in her mouth so I don’t feel guilty that there will be nothing else (except the low-fat baked chip substitutes while we watch TV this evening).

Next week, I will be more organized.

And less sarcastic.

And, a more attentive cook.

Ummm….Any tips for actually meeting those resolutions?

    For dinner, try to bite the bullet and cook several meals and throw them in the freezer.

    Another thing my wife started doing recently is filling ball jars with all the ingredients needed for one thing, like home made hamburger helper or something like that. Then we can pull those out and cook them on nights we don’t feel like cooking. At least the prep work is done.

    We also try to make sure we have some meat that I can throw on the grill and vegetables that I can throw in the micro to easily make dinner myself.

    I’m a decent cook unless the recipe has a meanwhile. So I normally try to stick to the easy things.

    Does hubby cook? :P That’s my quick fix, though it doesn’t happen often. But if I have spaghetti ingredients on hand, he’s good to go. Or we make a bunch of pancakes ahead of time and freeze them. Then just nuke a few for dinner. My crew loves a breakfast dinner (they get that from Bald Man, not me). Best wishes on keeping those resolutions. :D

    Pancakes I can do in a flash! Thanks for the idea Kerri. I know my husband can make homemade frenchfries while on vacation and bean soup for Christmas Eve, but other than those two occassions he is perfectly happy to live on bread and cheese.

    And Mike, yes, job lots for dinner would help. I’m also going to try pre-cutting a load of carrots and other vegetables to have at the ready. Thanks for the tip.

    Oh! I forgot, too, to mention the ever-faithful Crock Pot. Onions, carrots, celery w/a little water and a few spices and chicken, soup by the time you get home! And if you don’t have time to prepare it all in the morning, stick it all in the pot the night before, pop it in the fridge, then stick it in the Crock Pot in the morning. Roasts, all kinds of stuff! Okay, I’ll go now… :D
