Toddler the Size of a Newborn

Suraya is 14-months old, however her weight and height is that of a newborn. This tiny tot only weighs 7lbs and she’s just 19 inches tall. Believe it or not, doctors have no clue what is wrong with this little girl. She simply won’t grow but she has gradually gained weight. Little Suraya born only weighing 2.6 pounds, so as you can see she has improved.

Suraya’s big sister isn’t as tiny as she is and she has babies bigger than her. The case is a bit sadder too, this precious little girl can’t sit, talk or even crawl and must be fed through a tube. Her older sister, Akilah, was actually walking by age 9 months.

According to her doctor, Dr. Jide Menakaya:

“She is a very interesting little baby.

“Her case is highly unusual. I have certainly never seen anything like this and I have been in paediatrics for nearly 17 years.

“A whole range of specialists have been involved in her care but she has been a real conundrum.

“The fact that she still did not grow after we put the feeding tube directly into her veins was unexpected and surprised us greatly.

“This is incredibly rare. We have run many tests but we haven’t had a firm reason as to why she is not growing.

“Now we are working on a theory  but more investigations need to be carried out.”

Hopefully they figure out what has done this and help her.
